Mouse Pointer Gone Wiled

Mouse Pointer Goes Wiled, Iam booting up XP Pro. using a PS2 mouse.
I have a communication software program that uses com 1 to collect ASCI data 9600 8N1 using pins 2&5 only.
But when data comes in the Com1 port the Mouse pointer thinks that the port is a mouse port and the mouse pointer responds to the data and goes all over th place.
Is there any way to stop XP from thinking there is a mouse on com1 and keep it seeing the PS2 mouse?
This never happend on 2K pro. and I have same problem on 4 other XP PCs.

two of my friends are having the same problems with WinXP sp2 with PS2 mice.

You might want to contact the software company to see if they have any patches.

I had this same problem a while ago

but I never could pinpoint the problem.... Since then I've replaced the sound card (Esoniq 16bit vanilla), KB, and been through several reformats and have a different mouse and not an issue anymore.... I started using that old mouse with a laptop occassionally and it hasn't done anything... I always thought it was an issue with the MB b/c the only way to fix it was to wiggle the plug in the connector and it would stop for a while
