Mouse pauses

I'm running windows 2000 with a logitech usb mouse and when I let the mouse sit for a while, like when i'm typing, it'll pause for a second when i try to move it. This is really annoying, does anyone have any ideas on why this might be? Should I just use a PS2 mouse? Thanks.

tends to happen with USB mice in general.
cuz USB connections use up system resources... and during heavy loading, the system resources are barely enough to keep the mouse running so it skips. but I'm not sure about typing.
