Mouse pauses when opening my computer

Ok, I am not so sure where should I post for this issue, but since my pc is overclocked I thought I post here.

Anyway here we go, this is a new build,

- GS-P35-DS4 ver2
- Q6600 G0 + tuniq
- 4x Patriot 2GB ( 5-5-5-12)
- adaptec u320 controller
- 15K 73GB Maxtor
- LG sata dvdr
- Geforce 7600GT (8800GT is on the way if dell ever fulfilled the order)
- Vista Ultimate x64

I was able to overclock up to 400x9 and the system is pretty stable.
The only things failed is prime95 test, and I tested variety of load testing applications, and played different games.

One thing I dont quite get is why my mouse always stop momenterary when I double click on my computer. I notice this happened even before I overclock.

Never had this issue with any of my computer and believe me, I build quite a few these past few years.

Any suggestion what to look for ?

You might want to make sure your system can pass at least an 8-hour Prime test with one instance per core.

What kind of PSU do you have?

psu is corsair 520W HX i think, and Still working on trying to pass prime95, but like I said, every other bechmark software does not seem to have any problem, just prime95.

Dude, P95 is the de-facto stability benchmark. If you want to call your system "stable", then it is of your own definition and applies to YOU and you only! :beer:

You need to back down your FSB. 400FSB is insane on a quad, let alone 3.6ghz.

Most people seem to run theirs at 3.2, maybe 3.4 tops. At 3.6 you're on the brink of instability.

SickBeast is right. And your system is nowhere near stable. Your system is what we call "benchmark stable". If it were Prime95 stable, that would be better, but even Prime95 doesn't guarantee stability-- it just guarantees Prime95 stability. See how this is working? If it's 100% stable with any application you throw at it, ever, under any circumstance, then it's completely stable.

I agree with myocardia and sickbeast on the issue of failing prime95. The only thing is, I've been using this pc for days on, playing games, and doing other things on my computer to include using different benchmark program to no fail. All this with vCore of 1.425 and temperature never goes beyond 61 degreen according to coretemp.
Now, this is probably possible because my work room is extremely cold right now (probably less than 60 degree ambient temperature), I figure I would clock it back down to 3.0Ghz or stock speed during summer. My work room is the hottest room in the house during summer; temperature gets to a blazing 90 degrees according to my $5 thermometer.

Anyway, back to my pressing issue here, mause pausing when i double click on my computer to display all the drives. Can this be caused by sata cdrom ? This is my first built using sata cdrom and I am a little suspicious that this is the culprit. I'd like to try different cd-rom, but i said to my self not to spend anymore time gutting my computer until I get my storage drive, and my new cd rom.

Why would you need another optical drive to find out whether that one's the cause? Weren't you aware that anytime you unplug any component inside your case, it immediately becomes non-functional?

BTW, I highly doubt that's the case. I've also got an SATA DVD-ROM drive, and this is the second system I've had it in (two completely different chipsets), and mine has never given me a single problem. Of course, it will tomorrow, now that I've said that.:laugh:

That's pretty impressive cooling if it's keeping coretemp only a few degrees above ambient under load.

I must have a lucky shot with a great chip or something .

Anyway, I noticed that when I used different version of prime95 (ver25.4, I was using ver25.5) I've been able to get my pc to run stable for hours now.
Oh yeah I had been raising my vCore to 1.437 to get my pc to pass ver25.5 prime95 and it still failed.... So I thought I try different version of prime 95 (ver 25.4) and its been running good for a few hours now with no error.
Temperature does raised a bit from max of 60 to 63 underload, but chipset stays at 36.

if prime is stable when i get home, I will start reducing my vcore again... could be a problem with the latest version of prime95.

nobody comments on my mouse problem yet...

Ordinarily, I would suggest that you might have a HD problem, if the mouse freezes during drive access, but you're right, it could be the CD-ROM too.

If youre not prime95 stable, youre not stable, btw.

Have you tried backing everything down to stock speeds to see if the problem persists? Seems like drive issue but who knows when you system isn't stable, all kinds of BS can happen.

As for "Its cold in the room about 60 degree's" and "my cpu full loaded runs a little over 60 degrees". I'm guessing he's mixing C and F. 60C Tcpu, 60F Tamb.
As for the freeze/lag/hiccup while opening 'my computer' my guess is your computer is looking for new devices on the local bus and on the network. There is a way to disable this behavior. Lets see, something like...
open up a folder then go to Tools|Folder Options|View(tab)
Then in the top part of that window under the 'Files and Folders' heading uncheck the first box: Automatically search for network folders and printers

Hopefully that helps ya, if not there's always google.

ding ding for sutahz, I think you were right as far as the computer is scanning for devices when I open my computer. Unfortunately there are no search for network folders and printers in the view tab of windows vista. I changed the way I view my computer from detail to icons, and ta taaaa...... no more pauses.
This bugs me though, in xp this never a problem, and my vista laptop also doesnt have this issue....... hmmm..... At least I know why this is happening, but still I dont understand why my PC which is way more powerfull than my laptop have this issue.
