mouse pads for optical mice

I don't want to give $18-$20 for a optical mouse pad. Was curious how do these compare to other hard surfaced mouse pads? Is there a noticable difference in just any hard surface mouse pad and the ratpaz, everglide, icemat, ect?

I use the Belkin with integrated wristpad (free after rebate often at OfficeMax). Good tracking, lasts a year or so.

wasn't there another radpadz type of mousepad out there that was selling for a buck...? ...it was on the HD forums awhile back...i donno if they have the deal anymore...it was a super nice mousepad and the deal was too crazy...i doubt they have it now cuz many people bought like 50 each or something.....they're really nice mousepads..

Belkin is soft flexible surface. It's very smooth but not slippery. Seems to be the same as their keyboard wristpad material.

I prefer a rubber backed, cloth faced surface for my optical, it has just the right amount of friction and is very quiet.

Well I use my desk to but my desk is old as the hills and the surface were my mouse is it starting to look ruff. I figure it would be cheap to buy a mouse pad then to buy a new desk. I am wanting one for gaming.

Does anyone know of a site with the best price shipped for the Ratpadz?

yes there is a difference in the materials used, i personally use the ratpadz.. i just like the size or the pad.

nothing more really

Ditto, and not some cheap foam backed one, a nice heavy rubber one. Hard surfaced pads, at least all I've used, sucked. Plastic on plastic tends to gum up and if the surface is shiny it can affect the optical performance...
