Mouse only moves vertically in Mandrake 8.1????

Specs first:
Linux Mandrake 8.1
Microsoft Wireless Intellimouse Explorer

When I was installing it detected the mouse fine and I used it to install it. Once installed however, the mouse will only move up and down. Moving the mouse to the right moves it down and left moves it up (or the reverse, I can't remember). If I click a button it will move a pixel to the right. Weird, eh?

Anybody have a fix for this, it's kind of annoying to say the least.

I tried just switching on the fly and using mousedrake to specify a standard ps2 mouse. Then I lost both of them.

You must have the wrong mouse driver installed.

When I last installed SuSE this happened. It picked up my MS USB Optical mouse as a Logitech or something similar. Cannot remember how I fixed it though - I think I changed it via YaST and then it worked ok.

I was gonna suggest you clean your mouse ball and your mouse guts, but I believe the explorer is an optical mouse... 😀

I switched it for an old PS/2 wheel and it detected it fine and I am using it right now. I would like to be able to use my new mouse though. How do I go about changing the driver. It detected it as a USB generic. I tried it as that and as USB wheel. I didn't think I should change it to Microsoft Intellimouse Explorer because they didn't have the wireless version there. Maybe I will try that.

USB isn't fully supported, even in the new 2.4.x kernel, see if you can get a USB to PS2 adapter for it, works great for my intellimouse in mandrake
