Sorry about the length.
Fixed up an old PII 200mhz for some friends and everything was working fine until their two year old son got to it while he was with the babysitter. When they got home, he was in one of the bios screens and the hard drive was getting all kinds of sector errors (when trying to read it in dos, since the machine would not boot).
Anyway, being the good friend that i am, I took the pc back and put in a new clean hard drive (fdisk and formatted) and upgraded the chip to an AMD KIII-400 (Powerleap upgrade). Cleared the cmos and fixed all the settings.
The chip is recognized fine, and so is the cd-rom and hard drive. I then do a clean of install Windows Me and go through the initial screens, but I notice that there is no cursor for the mouse (had the same problem with an Epox 8K7A & 8K7A+, but that is another story). I install Windows Me anyway and but still no mouse. Just a mouse pointer sitting in the middle of the screen. I reboot loading the drivers step by step and see that the mouse driver is being loaded.
It's a microsoft PS/2 mouse connected to a serial port adapter on a Shuttle HOT-557(v1.32) VxPro motherboard. I found the manual online and it said to disable PS/2 mouse support in the bios (if using a serial mouse) to free up IRQ2. I tried that and still no mouse. I even tried a Norton Ghost boot disk to see if the mouse would be recognized and still no mouse. The only card in their right now is a Voodoo3 2000. Everything worked before.
Does anyone have any other ideas?
