Mouse Movement Reduces Framerates

I booted the computer normally and it froze. I restarted the computer and after that reset, the framerates on my system go down as soon as I move the mouse. I have updated to the latest drivers for the motherboard, video card, mouse, windows updates, etc. and it still affects the framerates. I don't noticed it too much when surfing around, but the minute I enter a game and move the mouse (FPS, MMO, etc), I see my frame rates drop from 70 to 15. I stop moving the mouse and the framerates jump back up. I decided to also check the nVidia control panel to see if mouse movement would affect their spinning logo. It lags the rotating nVidia symbol every time i move the mouse.

I tried switching USB ports with the mouse and that didn't work.

I uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers and that didn't work.

Here is my computer specs below.

Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Quad CPU Q6600 @ 2.40GHz (4 CPUs)
Memory: 8188MB RAM Corsair XMS2 DDR800
Hard Drive: 2x 500 GB Seagate 7200RPM SATA2 32MB Cache
Video Card: 2x NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT 512MB PCI-e SLI
Monitor: ViewSonic VX2235wm
Sound Card: Sound Blaster X-Fi Fatal1ty Extreme Gamer
Speakers/Headphones: Logitech Z5300 5.1 THX
Keyboard: Microsoft USB Comfort Curve Keyboard 2000 (IntelliType Pro)
Mouse: Razer Diamondback Special Limited Edition
Operating System: Windows XP Professional x64 Edition Service Pack 2

Any ideas? The only thing I heard online was the windows mouse driver may have corrupted (during the freeze/reboot) and I would need to fix that. Not sure how to do that though.
 
hmm, you're not running this in RAID are you? I'd use CCleaner and Driver Sweeper to remove all leftovers of the mouse and tryusing a generic baisc driver and see how things go. I'd also seriously consider testing your PSU.
 
While I test out the PSU unit, can anyone think of any other reason it would be doing this? I put the computer together in February this year and things were going great.

Also if I disabled SLI mode, it didn't make a difference.

With the system above I would think 850W Thermaltake PSU unit would be enough power. Did I underestimate or am I "cutting it close?"

Your PSU is sufficient, assuming it isn't failing, which it very well may be. But, what happens when you use a different mouse?

I have tried a different mouse. Not a high performance one and it does the same thing.

 
Take a close look at all your USB devices. If possible, try a different keyboard. Consider a powered USB hub. If working properly, your PSU seems quite adequate.
 
I removed one of the video cards to see if that would make a difference. I still have the same problem there.

I have also ran disk cleanup, then scandisk thorough option, and then defrag. That doesn't help.

Checked out the Event Viewer in the Administration tools. Found problems with nvidia drivers loading for nTune. I uninstalled all excess nVidia software, but the kept the video card drivers. No luck there.

Is it possible that my UPS backup system can't supply enough power to the PSU?

For testing the PSU, is there a website that you guys recommend viewing for a step by step guide or something? I never have tested a PSU before.
 
Though I can't for the life of me think of what might be causing the problem, the psu would be wayyyyy down the list of probable causes I would think.

Are you running any mouse software?

I was originally using microsoft's drivers. After coming across this problem, I downloaded Razer's Diamondback software/drivers. That didn't help the problem, so reverted back to the microsoft drivers.

I don't have a multimeter yet, but here is what "EVEREST Home Edition" is reporting.

Voltage Values:
CPU Core ------ 2.26 V
Aux ----- 2.98 V
+3.3 V ----- 3.25 V
+5 V ----- 5.46 V
+12 V ----- 9.06 V
-12 V ----- -11.07 V
-5 V ----- -5.49 V

 
Problem solved. Can't believe I didn't think of this....

X-Fire was causing the problems. Updated automatically today and problem was solved. Should have thought to close all my background programs done. Rookie mistake, doh! Thanks though for all of your help guys.
