My brother was having issues with this and I think I'll step up and try to help him with this instead. A while back, a stick of ram died on him. He's been able to scrap by with the one stick, but after a week on the one stick, his keyboard and mouse are no longer active at startup. Since then, we've received two new sticks of ram and its still doing the same thing.

The system starts up, the keyboard works for a very short duration (5 or so seconds) and freezes. We have a "G15" keyboard, the keys have backlighting and a digital watch on its LCD display. The keys are lit up perfectly fine, and the system clock on the keyboard display only works during those first few seconds and then you can see the second hand on the digital clock frozen. The mouse light never turns on and is never active.

Safe mode works perfectly fine. We've tried uninstalling (in device manager) the components under the Keyboard and mouse, same problem still occured. During the time he was out one stick of ram, he did download Service Pack 3. The first attempt at installing SP3 failed with a blue screen of death, the second time worked.

Any help appreciated. Thanks.

Someone in Hard forum suggested reinstalling SP3 even though it successfully installed on the second try previously with the 1 stick of ram (that now failed). I reinstalled it and it now works! Thanks mpilchfamily for your time!
