1) I can't highlight more than a few lines of text at once, then all the highlighting disappears.

2) Mouse is kinda jumpy... actually if i leave it still, you can see it kinda wiggle around the screen.

3) It spontaneously resets its speed to "slow"... happened twice in the past 15 minutes actually.

I have a cheapo Inland optical... I remeber having these same problems before, but I don't remeber how I fixed it.

cheapo, that's the problem.

Have you tried go to control panel-->mouse and play around with different configuration?
If problem still exists, you should go get a logitech or microsoft (great customer service :D ).
You can get a optical one for around 20~25 shipped

Well guys, I found the problem... the pen for my graphics tablet was knocked over and sitting on the tablet, so there must have been interference and stuff.

Can't say I'm too pleased with y'all layin' the blame on my old mouse and telling me to buy another, but i guess its more my fault for not remebering how i fixed it the first time around. Oh well.

Under the circumstances you described in your first people, it's hard not to put the blame on the cheapo mouse.
A microsoft or logitech mouse is a good investment anway because both companies have excellent replacement warranty.
