Mouse is Lagging/not working

Hi, I've been having problems w/ my mouse ever since I installed Windows XP. I used to have Linux Lindows. I downloaded the drivers and such and it was working fine for a while. Now it is lagging and sometimes it just moves up and down when I move it. It also seems jerky. Is there something wrong w/ the drivers? I think the motherboard (?) is L7VMM3. It is an AMD Athlon XP Processor. TIA for any help 🙂
 
Is it an optical mouse? If so, check the laser and make sure there isnt a hair in there. Next, try it on another usb port directly on the back of the pc, if you are running it through a hub. Next,try it on another computer, if it does not work there, then it is probably broken.
 
Those sound like symptoms of a dirty ball mouse. More specifically, there's crud on the long thin rollers that get moved by the ball. They're pretty easy to clean if you drop the ball out and scratch the crud off with a fingernail.
