Want to install a mouse interface on an old socket 7 board so I bought one. The connector is the 5 in-line type.

Motherboard colors says:

X RED
X BLUE
X GREEN
X (none)
X YELLOW

I thought, "OK, piece of cake!" Until I got the interface and the colors are RED, BROWN, ORANGE and BLACK.

I'm no electrician.........HELP!

Here is a copy of my reply to another thread here:

Wire colors don't help as, if there is a standard, no one follows it. So you have to do it the hard way.
. Looking at the ps2 socket with the key (rectangular hole) at the top the pins are numbered (clockwise from the key hole): 5,3,1,2,4,6. You may need to use a meter or continuity tester if the contacts on the back of the socket aren't visible.

. Pinout on socket is:
. 1=data, 2=NC, 3=Ground, 4=5Volts, 5=Clock, 6=NC.

. You will need to have a mobo pinout to match up the signals of the mobo pins and socket leads.
