I've had a few mice over the years at this house. Traps dont solve the problem for long. I eventually found the entry point by closely inspecting the foundation. Entry points will show with dirty vertical areas between the ground and bottom of siding or failed masonry. Haven't had a mouse for yrs after closing a single 1 inch round area .

40+ years ago, we rented an apartment. On the walk-through after getting the keys, a mouse ran across the carpet. Without thinking...I grabbed the closet rod, ran after the mouse and beat it to death. (cleaning that out of the carpet was a bit difficult)

Any gap larger than 1/4 inch wide can be enough enough to serve as a mouse superhighway. Literally, if they can squeeze their heads through it, they can usually travel through it.
