Mouse hanging after idle

Once again I am looking for your advice. I had a solid system but then stupidly fried it. After getting a new motherboard and assembling everything I now have a weird problem. The mouse seems to hang every few minutes, there is no general pattern to this. Both the mouse and keyboard are PS/2, not USB. During the OS install they hung a few times, but I dismissed it as just being an installation issue.

for anyone who will run into this, I solved it by attaching an IDE hdd. my CDRW that is also IDE is not showing up now, but much better than the mouse hick up. It was the worst/.
