Mouse freezing intermittently!

StageLeft

No Lifer
About 20 minutes ago out of the blue this started happening to my MS USB optical mouse: in anywhere from 5 second to 60 second intervals the mouse will freeze for about 2-3 seconds. The computer itself is still running fine, but the cursor is just freezing up. It's not the USB port either. Any ideas? I ran Adaware, for what it's worth, and no problems found.

EDIT: Course I've rebooted and that did nothing. I've now shutdown all programs including two pending print jobs (printer is turned off) and so far it's not screwed up in about 3 min. EDIT 2: Oh, there it goes it froze again. 🙂

Ok I JUST this second was lucky enough to see an error "This USB device is malfunctioning" - something along those lines. I guess it is indeed the mouse. Damn I loved this mouse too. I will see if I can find another one in the house 🙁

I'm on a PS2 mouse for now, but is there any chance that my USB controller is faulty? That would suck. I can try my USB mouse at work tomorrow on a different computer.

I had a similar problem where the mouse and its optical light were intermittent, and was resolved by replacing the mouse.

i got the same MS optical mouse anyway that happend to me liek a week ago and i just cleand the little head under the mouse and it was ok 🙂

First make sure there isn't a hair blocking the light. One little hair will make your mouse stop working. Then, throw out your mouse and buy another. I'm on my 4th in about 5 years and that's exactly how the first 3 died.
