Mouse DPI step question

Are there any mouses out there that go beyond the 5-6 DPI Rating Steps. i see most do max of 5-6 with steps of 400/800/1600/3200, and give or take 200 and 5000.

If there arent any, why do they not exist? Is there some kind of technical difficulties? just trying to find out the reason why there isnt any.

let me know your thoughts. thanks

two reasons intertwined; first, the sensor cannot handle it (yes there are some 10k sensors, but most crap out around 6k), and they become unpractical during desktop use.

you really should just use a native dpi step (400, 800 or 1600 depending on the sensor) and stick with that.

*1 mouse, 2 mice.

I would imagine that they are limited by a few factors:

1. Most mice to this day use very slow, cheap, low power controllers without customizable firmwares. Having more than 5 DPI steps would require a new controller and these really isn't demand except in a handful of gaming mice. Most mice use controllers which are integrated into the sensor, and the mouse makers wouldn't take the expense of having Pixart (who makes most of the sensors) design a custom one-off sensor which would only be used for a small batch of mice.

2. This ability to adjust DPI settings is often built into the software for those mice which do have programmable firmware. For example, the G502 can set the DPI for up to five setting from 200-12000 DPI in 50 DPI increments. Why doesn't it let you have more than five settings? Because how on earth are you going to scroll to a certain DPI if you mouse supports 200+ DPI settings. Using the DPI up and downs buttons, I think that five settings is the right amount where you can quickly get the DPI you want.

You could probably script the equivalent with LGS, using a compatible Logitech mouse. Other than that, don't expect it. Most of use use just 1 or 2 DPIs.
