Mouse Causing Speaker Noise? Please Help

Ok here is what has happened so far.

I am not sure how long this has been going on but I think it started with my video card upgrade.

I sold my GF3 and replaced it with a Voodoo 3 Card (Till my new card came in). I do not remember this sound when I did that although it my of been there. I usually keep my speakers low so I may of not noticed it.

I got my 9700 Pro In and now have it installed. But have been noticing, every time I move the mouse my speakers make a sound that is umm sort of like picking up a mic and slightly bumping it. Thing is I have no mic hooked up.

It is consistant, I have checked all speaker cables, checked all connections. Removed connections one at a time to see if the sound stopped. It does stop when I unplug the mouse.

The mouse is a Logitech USB Mouse. My sound is on board AC 97 Audio and a Epox 8K7A motherboard. These are Cambridge Soundworks 3 piece set, it is regular speakers not USB model. The sound has worked great and have never had a problem before.

I am at the point where I do not know what else to try. Can anyone plese give me some suggestions of other things to check?

Thanks up front.

did u uninstall the voodoo drivers?

is your vid card and anything sharing a irq?

any device conflicts?

have u tried a different vid card (not the voodoo) and repeated the problem?

also try taking your video card acceleration down a notch or 3

hope this gives u some ideas

I've had this problem before! Although I don't believe I ever solved it. I just got a new soundcard and mouse.

It's annoying as hell, though. Here's a bump for some help.

I'm having the same problem with a 9700 All-in-Wonder. It also shows up when playing graphics intensive games - kind of a low buzzing in the background (actually changes pitch when I zoom in and out in Dungeon Siege). Very strange - I'm using the onboard audio on an Abit IC7 and Creative 5.1 speakers. Let me know if you figure it out.

I am thinking its something to do with the on board sound and the Ati 9700 Pro video card.

My motherboard is a Epox 8k7a with on board AC 97 Audio.

I have updated AGP Driver.

I did uninstall the Voodoo drivers.

No Conflicts but there are two Ati 9700 Cards Showing (I think this is supposed to happen as it did the same thing in my friend system. It shows: Radeon 9700 Pro and Radeon 9700 Pro - Secondary)

Sound was not there on my Voodoo 3 Card

Curious about why to take the 3d Acceleration down a notch or two? Really dont want to slow my system down if I can help it.

And I am using Windows Xp with SP1

Thanks for all replys and I am still looking for any suggestions.

I had a buzzing noise on and old work PC where I had an optical mouse and onboard sound, moving the cable seemed to solve but it happened from time to time.

May wanna try a cheap PCI soundcard.

Also I have tired upping and lowering Hardware Acceleration for sound with no change.

If anyone has any other suggestions I would be most grateful.

Had that same problem where I move my mouse and the squeeky noise comes from the speaker. I use a MS Optical Wheel Mouse and Creative Speaker. Here's how I solved it.

So you have the Cambridge Speaker... which acts as an amplifier. Turn down the volume control of your computer... like double click that sound icon you see in your system tray, turn down low (not all the way as if muting)... the volume control, wav, everything. Once you do that, crank up the volume knob on your Cambridge to your likings.

Can't guarantee this'll work for you but worked on mine. Let me know how it goes.

Hey, I have the SAME problem. And I also have the Cambridge Soundwords 3 piece system.

It's sort of like a low hum/buzz whenever you move the mouse? I never investigated it too much, but I'll be sure to read this thread, and try the reccomendations. Now, I might even check out their site to see if it's a known problem, and there might be a fix for it.

Oh yeah, and it happens with two different mouses. (haha, take THAT grammar Nazi's.) :D

I have the 4.1 Cambridge Soundworks system, I don't think I have any interference from the mouse but I will check later...maybe it's quieter than on yours?

One thing I have noticed is that it picks up radio signals a fair bit....particularly german ones so it's a sign of poor grounding on the little satellites so they will be more prone to picking up interference etc.

Well hmm it seems we have a winner so far.

I too have the Cambridge Soundworks 3 piece system. Seems that is the problem.

Is anyone else using on board sound? Just want to make sure if its in conjunction with the speakers or just the speakers themselves.

Also the lowering volume on the sound control and uppin the speaker volume did not work.

Am planning a sound card switch out to a sb live. Hoping that works, if not it seems a speaker switch may be in order.

I don't have onboard sound. I have a SB Live!

So, don't know what to tell you. Man, if we can figure out a fix, that would be nice.

Well I have to admit the wierdest part for me is this did not start happening until I put in my Radeon 9700 pro. I have never noticed this problem before with my previous Geforce III card.

When I used to scroll my browser screen, winamp would make this screeching noise. I downloaded a small third party patch for winamp and it solved the problem. I was using win98 at the time. The file may have been wa2update.exe (I'm working from memory here :) )

I am guessing you only had that problem though when Winamp was open?

And this is not really a screeching sound. Its more like you have a Microphone plugged in and are getting slight feedback from the mic every time i move my mouse. Scroll, move, etc.

Sort of a slight thumping sound almost exactly like a mic is plugged in. But I have no mic :(

Well I have it fixed. Sort of.

I still have not figured out what the problem is. But I did put in a Soundblaster Live 5.1 in today and the problem is gone.

It appears to of been the combination of the onboard sound/cambridge soundworks speakers/radeon 9700 pro.

The reason I put the 9700 pro in that is because it did not start happening until I installed the video card.

Thanks all for help though and I really hope others can get their problem fixed as well.
