My mouse keeps causing batteries to leak for some weird reason. They are facing the right way and the contacts are clean. I've tried generic batteries, energizers and duracell.

Anybody?

Last time I checked the mods do a pretty decent job on their own without needing civilian intervention.

Good thing we have snide little bitches who justify their post counts by pretending it's their job, too.

Hmm, strange. How long does it take?

Right away, it starts hissing and making noise and then I open the battery compartment and it has some of the goop leaking out.

The mouse still works fine btw.

:Q

Whoa. Do they get warm?

The only thing I can think of is extremely high current draw, but that seems weird.

Hmm, I hope you're referring to alkaline batteries and not lithium first of all. Second of all, though there are no federal mandates pertaining to the hazards of alkaline batteries, I'd still consider them to be chemical waste and would be pretty hesitant to handle a mouse seeping said substance.

A visual would better clarify this if at all possible.

Maybe. I seem incredibly easy to agitate today.

It seriously sounds like they're shorting out. Nothing else would cause them to do that.

No it's not working fine! :D

Give the guys at Logitech a call. Even if you're out of warranty, odds are they will replace it for free.

Update: So I think I have discovered the problem, I had one almost dead battery with a new battery and apparently that can cause batteries to leak.

I have the EXACT same problem with the EXACT same mouse. Hum now I wonder if it's an issue with the mouse, or the fact I might be putting in 2 batteries, one full and one used. However I am almost sure I dropped in both recharable batteries (both freshly recharged) and also 2 brand new duracells. GRRR>

Duracell apparently are prone to leaking more then energizers. I think I will try rechargeable batteries next.

Yup, tells you right on the package in the Warnings section - Do Not Use in combo with Discharged batteries or other brands. Sometimes those Warnings are useful to read... Rechargeable batteries (NiMH) aren't the best for mice as they self-discharge relatively rapidly - they are best for short-term, high demand applications like in digicams with frequent flash use, where you use up the energy quickly and recharge. Mice are relatively low-drain over long periods applications where Alkalines are generally best - just when they need changing, use new, same brand cells. I usually get at least a year out of a pair of name brand Alkaline AA cells in my cordless keyboard.

One day I'll get some top-brand NiMH for my digicam - thus far I've used some no-name, Chinese NiMH and they aren't worth a chunk of used food...

I'm lucky if they last a couple of weeks. The older mouses were battery hogs.
