mouse advice

For mice, I was thinking either a Logitech MX518 Gaming Grade ($39.99) or this:

^ Razer Diamondback 3G. It says it is "Infrared." What kind of mouse pad is best for that?

Also, which would you go with? Is there a better/cheaper alternative? (must be USB).

infared means it's optical, not laser. the light is produced by an LED. this is technically less accurate, but i doubt you'd feel the difference. I'd go with the MX518 though. it too is optical i believe.

Personal preference, or more bang for the buck (the logitech)?

Not that it makes much difference in most cases, but the IR link requiires line of sight (LOS) Technically, it is sort of yesterday's news

Personal preference. If you like right hand oriented palm control then the MX518 is the better choice of the two. If you use any other grip style then the Diamondback is going to be the better choice.
