Mounting case fans

I went to install the fans into my case for the circulation air and realized that I don't have any hardware to mount them with. I read somewhere that rubber spacers were recommended, but I called the hardware store here and they only carry nylon ones. Can anyone tell me the best way to mount the case fans?

The best way is to drill or punch holes for the four corner holes of the fan, and use self-tapping fan screws, or metric 5x0.8mm bolts and rubber grommets. Ask the hardware store about "grommets" and maybe the light-bulb will go on for them. 🙂

You could also use ordinary zip-ties, aka cable ties, if you don't have the means to drill holes in your case.

You'll find grommets at Radio Shack or maybe an auto parts store too. Take the fan(s) with you to the store to be sure to get the right size. Maybe use bolts with lockwashers to avoid loosening.
