Mountain Mods UFO...got some questions!

Hello all.

Looking for some answers on the Mountain Mods UFO. First off, here's the case I'm interested in. Basically, I like the red, but want clear windows, clear fans (no LEDs) and will light the whole inside up with dual white or blue cold cathodes. Looking for a clean, crisp, racy design.

My questions are:

- How many fans do I need to buy?
- Does this case use 120mm fans only, or are there other sizes needed?
- Lastly, are there any PSU considerations in terms of compatability? (I'd really like to keep my FSP supply">http://www.mountainmods.com/popup_image.php?pID=83&type=jpg</a>

Thanks for any help...cheers!

I'm sure VinDSL will be by as UFO threads are Vin-magnets. The case can hold up to 5x120mm and 3x80mm but I doubt that most users would actually need more than three 120s arranged strategically.

FSP link broken.

Will you be watercooling your rig? The UFO case is huge!

They took an older server design and made it an enthusiast's dream; they'll do anything you want to your case, as long as you pay for it.

Nice case. Just remember; more fans = more noise...even if they are low speed fans.

Try some Antec 120mm TriCool fans with three speed selectors. They're clear, you can get them without LED's, and you can tune the speeds. I'd check the fan count, it says right on the site 5x120 and 3x80, but that doesn't make much sense. The black U2-UFO with three big windows holds 9x120, no 80mm. I'd either order and look at the case when it shows, or e-mail MM before you buy it. They respond quickly enough, and if you're spending 400 dollars, you may as well make sure you're getting what you want. They also can include dual cathode packs, it's in the options on the case's page.

Thanks for the info, all.

That's what's confusing me as well, Mot. I would've thought that with all the 120mm mounts the UFO has, why play with 80's, even in the back?

Anyway, will most likely order the case and finish her out once it arrives...that way, I can "plan" it out more with it sitting infront of me!

Thanks for the help guys...cheers!

AHAHAHAHA.... VINNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN where are you????

But yeah a UFO is nice.

However correct me if im wrong, but his is the original U2? That says

Fan Mounts - 9-120mm
Empty Weight - 15 lbs.

So that owuld mean there all 120mm and theres 9??? But i do remember U2's having smaller fans in the rear, so yeah.. this is confusing.. Guess you should just wait for vin, since he has that case.

Personally i like the dualy or horizon better. :X

OMG!!!

I've answered these questions twice now, but I'm running on MSIE -- bench building my LanParty -- and I keep hitting 'cancel' in this stupid bulletin board software AnandTech runs -- and MSIE doesn't save it to memory, like Firefox, so...

I gotta go install Fx before continuing... :|

Start with a 10-pack of 120s, and 4x80mm...

They only use 120mm fans on my case -- the perfect size for case fans -- the most air with the least noise... but, some U2-UFO cases use 4-5 80mm fans too, so... it all depends. If you plan on running a ThermoChill PA 120.3 radiator, that alone will take 6x120mm fans in push-pull config.

Any standard PSU will work... the only compatibilty issues that will crop up is if you plan on using dual PSUs! ;)

Believe it or not, they aren't all that big! They just *look* huge...

My Opti-1203 is 18"x18"x18" and weighs 11.5 lbs.

It just looks like it's 43"x43"x43" and weighs 50 lbs! :D

Still, there is plenty of room to do whatever you want... and I guess that was your point!

I'm curious about that MM case. Does it fit a 8800GTX card? Being its 18"x18"x18" I figure it might. The Twice7 would make a nice little lanbox maybe. Its 14"x14"x14" but not sure if its setup to hold the big G80 type cards. All the Twice7 reviews are old ones so the video cards people are using go back about 2 years or so in time. I couldnt even find a review that showed a good pic of the innards of the Twice7 which I found odd since most reviews usually show that type of pic.

I've got my Opti-1203 case apart right now.

I just measured from the inside edge of the mobo to the front wall... It was 7.5".

So, unless your 8800GTX card is over 17" long... no problem! :D

Did you see this review?

Look at the mobo tray...

That's the same (full-sized) mobo that I run -- DFI LanParty Pro875B -- a real monster...

And, it looks like there's a good 6" to play with, beyond the edge of the mobo tray! ;)

Thanks for that info, Vin. I appreciate it. :) So you think a 8800GTX would fit in the twice7 box? :Q That'd be a sweet portable lanbox if it does.

LoL!

We're weird, eh? :p

Look, I just read a couple of your posts (from today)...

One said you could only OC your E6600 to, like, 3.6G... I did 3.925G on air (P4EE Gallatin).

Another one said you were thinking about getting a Mountain Mods Duality case (two PC's in one case).

To my way of thinking, what you NEED is a Opti-1203 -- just like this weirdo! :D

Check this out...

E6600 @ 4100MHz (Mountain Mods Opti-1203)

I can assure you there is plenty of room for dual 8800GTX cards in a MM case. Even with the EK Full Cover Water Blocks, the distance from the top of the PCIe slot to the top of the block is under 5 1/4" and the removable motherboard tray has plenty of clearance.

The top of the tray is 7" from the top of the PCI slots.

I sent a email to MM sales people and they replied back saying it would indeed fit. A 14"x14"x14" cube case that not only fits a ATX psu, a 8800GTX, but also a full size ATX mobo. Now thats sweet! Kinda pricey but no more pricey than a Qmicra case. In fact some of their Twice7 cases are a little cheaper than the Qmicra. I wish I had known all this before I bought my Qmicra. Oh, well.

Thanks for the replies.
