Bear Peak is accessible from the downtown. It is in Boulder Mountain Park and is the highest peak. It has great views of the surrounding mountains. From Evans to the south all the way to Longs Peak and Rocky Mountain National Park to the north. The best place to park is the NCAR center and hike from there (cuts a lot of hiking time down). You walk directly through the Flatirons that Boulder is so well known for. There is a ton of stuff not too far away (Walker's Ranch, etc.), or you could take a short drive up to Estes Park and hike tons of trails in Rocky Mountain NP.
