For all you backpackers!

Check out mgear.com
This bag goes for $180-190 @ most B and M stores I frequent.

$129- For a small that fits those 5'7 and under
$139- For a medium that fits 6'0 and under
$149- For a long that fits 6'6 and under

This is a 15f synthetic bag.

For those of you that don't know Mountain Hardware is better than North Face, Kelty, etc.

This is a GREAT bag.

Also, on the front page of the site is the Petzel "Tikka" headlamp. I HIGHLY suggest picking one up. The headlamp take 3 AAA batteries that power 3 LED bulbs for more than 50 hours. That's a heck of alot of night hikes. www.mgear.com

A decent price for that bag. Most people don't need a 15F bag though,a 35F will do. Especially if you hike during the summer, the smaller stuff size and weight is important. The TNF Flight bag is an OK price at $99 too. People looking for bags should check out campmor and REIoutlet.

I guess it depends where you go... I've been in a 15F bag in the summer and frozen my rear off a few times. Mostly in the marble mountains. We're doing 220 miles this summer on the John Muir trail and I know I'll be bringing a bag warmer that 35f. Not trying to talk smack jack, just playing devils advicate.

Shooter I hear you. It all depends on what you are doing and when. Most people don't camp in colder weather ( I do -but people say I am nutz) I have a Kelty 30F that I use in the summer and an older TNF 0F that I take out when I think it is going to get cold. I like to pack lite, so the warmer the bag the smaller and lighter it is. It is all about usage when it comes to gear.

I am just waiting for the TNF mtn lt jckt I just ordered for $135. It will be my 1st real goretex jacket. :D

Nice... I'm trying to find a decent shell now, but I'm 6'5 about 280 and all I can find thats even close is a columbia xxl double whammy, heavy a$$ jacket. Then again it goes with my TNF goliath, 4lb 1oz 70 inch should girth bag. Btw, I'm looking for a TNF soloist bivy right now, lemme know if you see one cheap. Thanks

Maybe I'll have to try out a TNF xxl then.

Trekking in the cold is a bunch O fun, I was @ lassen last weekend, talk about a work out. Snowshoes are a real biznatch.

Nice... I got my tikka two weeks ago and love it, check one out.

Jackhammer, where did you get the TNF mtn lt jckt for $135?

I'm looking for a goretex shell. mvp.com is having a big sale and I saw a marmot 3 lyr one for $150! but there's something wrong with their site or something because it errored whenever i want to check out and their phone line is ALWAYS busy. I'm starting to think it's some kind of scam.

Do you guys know where a good buy/sale gear forum is? I've been trying to find one for awhile now, I have a few stuff to sell.

Not really, I've looked through the one on outdoorreview.com which isn't that good. I've been mostly checking eb&y.

Mountain Hardware is great stuff... Have a couple of there shells and a Ramses -5 750 Down bag. Really nice bag. Live part of the year in the Eastern Sierra's and also travel to Yellowstone and the Tetons during the fall.

Another place you might check out is Sierra Trading Post, I have gotten some really nice Marmot stuff from them. They also carry alot of TNF closeout stuff, that is listed in there catalog as Seconds, but all the stuff I have seen in there retail store in Reno was actually tagged as Firsts... They had alot of really big sizes last time I was in there.

well, first of all. yes MT Hardware .. some of the best backpacking gear out there.

second ..

REI and Campmor ... have decent sales ... but usually on different kinds of things ... its just a matter of them haveing a sale on What you want .. which can be rare.

i Much perfer rei-outlet ... Rei.com doesnt really have any deals. they are mostly retail.

as far as gortex shells go ..

i cant stand TNF .. pry cause damn near EVERYONE at my college wears one. id much perfer a MT hardware, patagonia, marmont, moonstone, or Arc tyx (SP) jacket.

two other things about camping/backpacking clothes.

one, if you have a GOOD outdoors shop, not one that carries Colombia/nike/etc etc.. sometimes they will pricematch items for you over the internet.

two .. even if they dont .. see if they have the item your looking at buying online .. just to check it out .. for size color ..etc.

good luck

Blueyin, the more north face I own, the less I want. But, I'm a big fan of their goliath and bigfella sleeping bags... Big sizes for the "husky camper". Now, all I need to do is find a shell that will fit me. I got the TNF soloist bivy on the way! Again, the only bivy that seems to fit my bag.
