Releases is March 30th. Direct2Drive has it for $29.99 and Steam has it for $26.99. With Steam it says you can't have it till March 31st though. Hmmm... decisions...decisions... This thing will be highly moddable so not sure if I prefer D2D or Steam when it comes to mods and getting them to work properly. I got M&B thru D2D last time and I'm perfectly happy I did although Steam is a little easier and a tad more intuitive to DL from. I find modding games I got thru Steam a little more a pia than D2D though.

Anyhoo... who's going to get Warband? Post your opinions and experiences here.

I'll get it sometime, once I get to play M&B, I got it on the Steam $5 sale and hardly put time into it yet, did more research on mods then actual play /facepalm

If you get the steam version, you can play the singleplayer and multiplayer beta until the full release. Granted, that is only 1 day (for steam), but it eliminates much of the difference b/w d2d and steam. Plus you don't have to deal with the super annoying D2D UI, and Steam will automatically patch your game.

Oh, and I picked up warband from Steam yesterday. Single player is very similar to the original Mount and Blade, with much improved graphics in battle. Should be very fun to see what the community does with the new graphics engine.

Lots more options in singleplayer too, and the quests actually mean something (sometimes)!

Is this an expansion or a sequel to Mount and Blade?

It's more like a new version than a sequel. (there wasn't really a story in vanilla M&B, how could there be a sequel?)

It adds better graphics, multiplayer, & better empire management in the single player game.

Would you say it's more polished than the original?

The multiplayer-only beta really didn't have a "more polished" feel to it to me. It's much the same UI as M&B (which was pretty minimalist), but the graphical enhancements definately improve the look of the game. I'll let you know on the single player after I've played around with it for a few days.

A turd could be considered more polished than Mount & Blade.

Thank you for factually stating your totally unsupported opinion. Troll much?

It was no where near a turd but yes, it needed some polishing. Its fun for what it is. If you are the cheap type buy it when it goes on sale. The original went on sale a couple of times that I know of for $5. This one will too probably in a few months. I can't wait to see what the modding community does with it.

Do you see a lot of people citing sources when it comes to their opinions?

You can think his opinion is terrible but in this case I'd would suggest that a lot of people who liked M&B would still agree with it at least in part. At the $30 price point there are much higher expectations than at the $5-$15 price points and polish is one of those expectations.

Admittedly I'm only 5 minutes into the game (single player) but so far I see nothing improved from Mount & Blade.

Some animations are different (for the worse IMO).
There's a very clumsy introductory quest.

I'm a little intrigued about this game. How does it plays? What genre it is, RPG, RTS, both?

Sort of a hybrid. You have a character and NPC companions that you control that gains levels and can be equipped with purchased or looted items. You recruit regular soldiers into your army and do quests, fight battles with other Lords or bandits, etc. Battles are fought in 1st/3rd person with your army vs the enemy army. In the later game, you can conquer villages, castles, and towns and hold territory either as a lord in one of the NPC kingdoms or as your own kingdom.

Warband greatly improved the single-player game. I have been beta-testing for a few months. They added a lot of new quests, the ability to marry, greater political depth, the ability to promote your NPC companions to lords of your own kingdom, and a improved battle interface.

I been playing around with it some and I can see that the graphics has been improved which is a nice welcome. Marriage is in that allows for alliance situations. I haven't done that so can't say if its good or not. Multiplayer is in now and that is one of the biggies players wanted in the original but didn't have. Not sure if they have added new quests or not. I didn't quest much in the original so hard to say. I see some new weapons I hadn't seen before so they added some things in that category.

I guess you can think of it as a refresh of the original but some new things added and improved. Like I said earlier if you don't want to pay $30 just wait a few months for it to go on sale. I'm thinking July 4th may be a good time for STEAM and others to do big sales.

Edit: Oh, and enemies will route now in a battle when they start getting overwhelmed and butts kicked. Thats new. Then when you go back to the map view and attack the routed enemies again they will either surrender and be captured or fight until death in another battle. Not sure if I like this or not. I've only seen looters, raiders, and forest bandits do it so far. I haven't fought a faction army yet so not sure if they do it. Still building up my guy and heroes on small stuff.

I just bought this game, but I can't figure out how to properly run my fiefs. I have two right now, and the first week they made quite a bit of money. The second week, significantly less, then the third, they are making nothing. I really have no idea how to properly take care of these fiefs, and I can't afford to upgrade either of them. Any ideas? The manual doesn't seem to go into what you have to do.

I have to say that this game has become rather addicting. I really like it, although it is pretty slow in developing. I feel a little bad, since people in Eve seem to rely on me, as I get constant requests to lead roams when I log on to change skills. Maybe I will take a day off this game and spend it playing Eve.

I haven't bought the retail yet..the beta was very fun

I'll pick it up when its sub 20 soon. However this game (Warband) is really onto something. The first one was fun..kinda hit a wall after while..this one expanded more.

My hope is that the Dev will merge with a larger company (Please not EA) to pump a ton of money into it and make it something Amazing!

The biggest problem with the game is the steep learning curve, and the fact that there is no tutorial for the non-combat portions of the game. The manual is close to useless, so the only way to learn is to try things out.

The actual gameplay once you figure out how things work is actually really good. At least it seems that way to me, but I have only played it for a few days now.

Paradox also made Europa Universalis, and you can really see the similarities between the two games. This is like a much improved version of that game.

I love the M&B games. I feel like I'm playing something different. My main focus. Doing solo raids on villages and slaughtering them all and taking all there stuff. I do this 2 or 3 times and get a good amount of money.

Then I go around and get my band of leader types. I then get there fittings up and try and level them up. Thats the stage I'm at now. After I get them leveled pretty good I will start to build my army.
