Both my wife and I are currently using a Motorola Droid X2, this is the first and only smart phone we’ve had. Over time these phones seem to have slowed down and not function as they originally did, my wife’s more so then mine but that could be due to the fact that her has been dropped quite a bit more.
I have an option to upgrade for free to the following list of phones.

· DROID MAXX by MOTOROLA
· DROID MINI by MOTOROLA
· LG G2
· Samsung Galaxy S® 4 mini
· Moto X™
· Nokia Lumia 928 upgrade 1 yr with Verizon Edge (not sure what Verizon Edge is?)

I’m not very smart phone savvy and I’ve have no problems switching over to a MS phone. My question is which of these phones would offer the best upgrade from my current phone?
Thanks!

Of that list, the G2 is the best stat wise with the MotoX being more user friendly in size and functions.

Verizon "edge" is sort of a phone rental program. You pay a certain amount of money a month (say...$10-$20) for a phone for 2 years. Then you "edge up" and turn in your phone and get a different one. You are better off paying out of pocket on an off contract device if you are going that route. You can at least sell the device outright if you want and get money back out of it. With the edge program you never own the phone.

Is the Nokia Lumia 928 a good phone? Is it a faster phone then the Droid X2. I have an option to upgrade to a higher Nokia phone but I'll have to pay $49.

My understudying is you are making interest free payments on the phone. If you decide to upgrade before it's paid off you can trade it in but if you don't you do own the phone in the end. You still paid full price, just in payments instead of all up front.

Its not a bad phone, but it is a Windows Phone. If you've heavily invested in many Google Play apps or Google services, those won't carry over to the 928.

On your list, the LG G2 is the best spec-wise, like vi edit already said, and the Droid MAXX will probably have the best battery life. Moto X is also a solid option.

In my opinion the Lumia 928 would be the least likely to get slowed down over time, and Windows Phone is the easiest mobile OS to use. Plus the camera is excellent.

After that, I'd go for the G2 because it has good specs overall and has quite possibly the best camera overall on Android (except for some of very newest phones, like the G3, or in low-light where the HTC One has the advantage). The Moto X is also a strong contender feature-wise, but its camera is not quite as good as the 928 or G2.

You can't go wrong with any of those phones, but I'd lean toward the Lumia 928 and Windows Phone if Google apps aren't necessary for you. It's more of a worry-free, easy to operate system in my experience. Android is fun if you need all the "power user" options. Even non-techie Android users can obsess about the latest updates and receiving them/not receiving them. That's less of an issue with Nokia, especially since they are owned by Microsoft now.

EDIT: If you can get the Icon for a little more money, go for it. Fantastic phone.

Its not a bad phone persay, but it is getting old at this point. Its very much worth it to get the icon over the 928, but only do that if you want to go windows phone. I have an icon for work, and its truly an excellent phone. Very fast, good battery life, excellent camera and screen. Also getting updated to windows phone 8.1 soon which should improve it further.

I've owned both a Lumia 920 (basically the same as a 928) and currently own a MotoX.

The X is just a much better daily driver than the 920. I know the 928 is a bit smaller and lighter, but it's still a large device. The MotoX is very compact for the screen size and incredibly comfortable to hold and use. Active display for the MotoX is awesome and I'm not sure I could go to another phone without it now. If you are heavily invested in the google ecosystem Windows phone will leave you hanging.

Also the Windows market *still* continues to be burden to the platform. There's still apps I use daily I can't get in the Windows phone marketplace. IE mobile is the worst of the major browsers IMHO.

I also had terrible battery life issues with my 920. I've had no complaints and am actually quite impressed with the battery life on the little MotoX. It's a trooper. Call quality and earpiece sound on my MotoX are also top notch. Coming from a Samsung device it's night and day difference.

If you are used to Android going to Windows will be tough. It's just a very restricted device, with a dumpy browser and a still lagging app market.

That LG G2 is a pretty nice phone. It's pretty fast, has an up to date Android version, and has a nice screen. The MAXX would have better battery life, though.

That said, I would like to try to talk you out of signing up for another Verizon contract first. Odds are that they are going to try to discontinue the unlimited data plan you have now, and try to stick you with a 2 GB data plan for the same price you're paying now. On a 4G LTE connection, you can blow through your data cap in a week. Trust me, my wife did! She racked up $70 in data overage charges when accidently leaving a babycam app running overnight without connecting to Wi-Fi first :(

Besides, you would save a small fortune on your monthly bill if you switched to something like a $45 a month unlimited plan from Straight Talk.

I ended up going with the Moto X since it was free. It's leaps and bounds above my previous phone so I'm fairly happy. I was looking into the lumia and was playing around with it and the OS seems very easy to get used to. Maybe next time we'll see how this phone works out.

Thanks!!

Congrats. It's a wonderful device that you'll learn to love the more you use it. Once you get used to active notifications you won't go back.
