<< Is this a good start bike? If so, is this a good deal? The price is $2795. http://www.deerhorncycles.com/kawasaki/k99en5.htm >>

bike looks decent.. but why are you getting a bike from CA when there should be some in TX that you can get them from... The bike is an LTD 500, its got the engine from the Ninja500R, and its pretty peppy. I would get it. Not too many cruisers have a 60Hp starting point.
>>

They said they ship anywhere in the US for about $400. 🙂

BTW, what is high mileage for a motorcycle?

a well maintained bike will do 100K.

I know people that have bikes with 30K on the clock and it still runs like new. As long as you maintain it, you will be fine.

That LTD500 is a sweet bike, since its got the engine from teh Ninja500, we can say its got race-bred blood in it. I believe kawasaki has the gearing differnet for teh LTD but the engine produces 60Hp anycase..

Jimmygates-I'm down with that. I live in San Gabriel. Mostly like to ride Saturday mornings so I can still get home and have some beers and watch some sports.🙂

Sundays are NFL for me, so I don't normally take my bike out (except for beer runs🙂)

That would be fun if the three of us could get together.

btw-what kinda bike you ride?

Hey mods. can we delete this thread. It's making me depressed. My bike's still in the shop and it's perfect riding weather outside. I am such a nervous reck right now. It's been almost a month that I haven't been able to ride since some dipsh!t tried to steal my bike and dropped it. ARRGGHH I want to ride soooooooo bad right now.

Hey, be happy you got the thing back. My buddy just got his Aprilia RSV Mille stolen two days ago.🙁

Btw-thanks for that link earlier. That's a cool sportbike site.

<< I'm in Walnut, CA. Maybe we can get together and ride someday. >>

Hey, I'm in Diamond Bar! Too bad I don't have a bike... yet 😛 I'm going to go look at a '90 CBR 600 Hurricane up in Santa Barbara this weekend though... if I do, do any of you guys want to go to a shop and help me pick out some gear? 🙂

<< Gear shopping is fun. hella expensive tho. those old cbrs are cool. >>

If John is going I wouldnt mind.. you buying the bike this weekend? If so you will probably need someone to ride it back.

Motorcycle Superstore

If you're looking for good riding gear, check these guys out. I bought all of my gear from these guys. I ordered my pants in a size too small and they exchanged them for free.

MAW Online

These guys have very competitive prices and great service. I just made my first purchase from them earlier this week.

Engines all have a different life expectancy. The newer four cylinders will last forever, without ever needing a valve adjustment. V-Twin's, which see most of their lifetime running above 9k RPM's, typically last anywhere between 25-50k miles between rebuilds. When you reach the end of your engine's life, you typically just need to replace a few engine gaskets and or rings. If you're an unlucky fellow, you'll have to replace the pistons. Doing such a replacement job will take one weekend of your life, if even that long. The engine's lifetime will vary depending on your habits. I run the crap out of my Ninja, but I'm not worried about the day that I'll have to rebuild the engine. An engine is cheap, the expression you get on your face as you accelerate to 14k RPM's is priceless.

BTW - CTweak, you've got a 916? I'm good friends with a guy who has a Ducati 916. Damn thing is sweet. But, he's crazy to have spent $30,000 for a motorcycle, and then go out and perform 60MPH wheelies & stoppies on the local highway.

And again I'll point out, stop generalizing. My v-twin can't even do 9K rpms. It spends most of it's life at around 3K. It will last a helluva lot longer than 25K miles.

Sport bikes != Cruisers != Dirt Bikes (and just for wyst, != Dual Sports)

Ok, my comment was directed for most V-twin super sports. Other than the EX250, I think the only other sport bike that has a V-Twin is a TL-1000R. I'm sure there are more though.

WOW! I think this is a record for the most posts without a flame thread. While we are a little off topic of off topic, are there any east coast riders? Might be fun to get together when the weather get nice again.

Salvage titles mean that the bike has been in a accident and the insurance company decied to "total" the bike rather than repair it. It doesn't mean the bike was completely wasted. The price of plastic alone on most sportbikes is enough to "total" a semi-old model. Even if the bike works and rides perfectly fine, remember going to a salvage title is a FINANCIAL decision, not made by the owner but an insurance company. That said, salvage title bikes do have a MUCH lower resale value, so if you get it cheap and don't plan on selling it AND it passes your or your mechanics inspection they can be a great deal. My insurance company totaled my Ninja, and I bought back the salvage title, plus had enough money left over to fix is good enough for me AND have money left in my pocket. (Yeah, it's ugly but it runs great!) And NO, once it's a salvage title it's that way forever, no way to change it back.

And any help you need with buying that 600 let me know, I can help you make sure it's straight and maybe tell you where to find a better deal.

Good_Guy / Jimmylee / JimGates...
I'm in Torrance, let me know and maybe we can all hook up!

Way_Cool...
That's a lot of money for a 500 you WILL get tired of fast. Yes it's a good bike, it is the Ninja (Ex500) mill re-tuned for torque with different cams. In a cruiser you are looking for torque more than out-and-out HP and I would recommend AGAIN, you spend about 300-400 bucks on an older bike, THEN buy the bike of your dreams with that cash! Otherwise you will reget it.

Mungla...
The whole point of v-twins is NOT to rev it over 9k. It's called torque and power ot of the corners. Yes some do, but why? You are already off the power curve on most bikes at that RPM, especailly on a cruiser. Other V-Twin sport bikes include the whole Ducati and Aprillia line along with the RC51, TL100S, and the SuperHawk.

Hayabusarider...
Yeah, I am really glad this hasn't degenerated... I have been out of the industry for about 4 years and it's great to be albe to have an intelligent conversation about bikes again!

If you go to http://www.buykawasaki.com/ and click on "view parts diagram" you can see what I mean. You have to select any EX250 or EX500.

I didn't post this link to be an arrogant b@stard, but to let anyone else out there with a Kawasaki know that you can go on the internet and view all the same parts diagrams that the dealers use. No more going to a parts counter and waiting for someone else to pick out the wrong part for you! Now you can pick out your very own wrong part number yourself!

<< Mungla.. The EX250 and EX500 are Parallel twins buy the way not V-twins...... >>

Thanks for correcting me. I had forgotten the difference between the two. I've seen people (including me now) use the terms loosely.

Buykawasaki is great. My local dealer acts confused when I call in and already know the number for parts. The diagrams are a great help as well; even though Kawasaki does put together great service manuals.

Hey Damage, you seem to be da man for tech parts. Where can I get a chain for the Busa. Looking for DID or equivalent. You dont want to know what an OEM chain goes for.

Its so cool that we have 4 motorcycle riders in this forum who is from in and around LA.

I would be so in to meet up with you guys on the bikes.

JohnLee, Jimmygates, Damage and anybody else - lets do it.

Hayabusarider....

Check out this kewel (aren't I l33t?) chainguard!
http://www.dragbike.com/news/06-01/061901g.htm

Here is a DID link for you. The DID x-Ring Gold is probably the best chain on the market. You can find pretty good prices on them on the net, just buy them oversize and use a grinder or chain breaker to cut to size. If you need any extra info on how just let me know.
http://wardsweb.org/busa/hayabusa_chain.html

You may already have this however there is a TON of Hayabusa web sites
http://www.hyp4r.com/hayabusa/accessories.htm

Hope this helps.
