Well, it looks like I'm getting the motorcycle that I have been talking aobut in threads. I'm getting it cheaper from my friend and having someone do the repair work for incredibly butt cheap. However, the gas tank paint is red and I would like to redo it to black or possibly keep it a chrome like color. Anyone have ideas on how to go about repainting the gas tank?

BTW the bike is an 81 Honda Cm400 - if that matters at all.

PS: Whats the chrome cleaner stuff I hear about?

Thanks

Is it chrome or red?

If I were you, with an old bike like that, I would just buy some spraypaint from Autozone and go to town.

And if I bought an old bike, which I may sometime, I would paint it all white with some Krylon or whatever.

Google Color Rite.. they should have factory matched paint.. about 30 for a rattle can..

Cheaper if you buy teh tub if i am right.

If your goign to paint, you might want to strip, sand, prime, sand and then paint..

Its just a red tank. I think someone painted the red on it.

Won't spray paint look kinda tacky? I want the glossy shine look.

People paint computer cases with spraypaint and it looks fine. You have to use clearcoat for the gloss.

your local hardware store has paint strippers.. (make sure you have gloves) and drain the fuel tank and let it dry before doing anything.

For sanding there is stuff like ebony paper and sand paper .. just ask your local home store (forget homedepot, go to a place that has ppl who konw what tehy are doing - i have bad luck with home depot.. sometimes they are too busy to help you answer teh questions). OSH and ACE TrueValue and maybe Even Kragen/Autozone can help you with the stripping and sanding tools. I prefer my local Virgils (local hardware store).. they are much more friendlier and the guys know what they are doing so getting questions answered is easy.
