Apparently the insurance company I am using right now doesn't cover motorcyles. (Hartford)

What do you use? I looked up a quote online for Geico and Allstate. Both were quoting me <$30/month for a 2002 Kawasaki ninja 500.

I tried a 2004 or 2006 Honda CBR600RR on Geico and it was <$50/month.

Compared to the auto insurance quotes I was getting, this is ridiculously cheap and suddenly find this far more affordable than I did previously. (>$150/month is a typical quote for my little old honda civic; ridiculous)

I always found the cheapest rates at Progressive. Those rates don't seem cheap if it's not full coverage. I paid less than $400 a year for full coverage on a ZX-11D (1100cc).

Do you have full coverage on the Civic? Even if you do, $150 month seems ridiculous.

No, I always go for the cheapest/just-liability.

I'm also 22, male, and have 2 tickets for 20-25 over from >3 years ago. Geico didn't care about those. Allstate did (Which is where I got the civic quote, actually. If I did with geico, it wouldn't be much different though. When I shopped around when I first got the car, it was in that range.).

Prepare to pay a small fortune for motorcycle insurance.

I'm with USAA but you have to be military or family of military (wife's Father was an officer in the Air Force) to get insurance through them. Also, USAA doesn't offer motorcycle coverage anymore. I was grandfathered in (because I had motorcycle insurance with them before they dropped it) and as long as my insurance doesn't lapse they'll continue to cover me. I pay about $40/month for full coverage on an 1100cc Ducati.

For the minimum liability coverage on motorcycles it is actually super cheap.

Cheapest I found was Progressive. I pay $350 per year full coverage and accessories for my Spyder. Same basic price I paid for my Yamaha Fazer with just liability... But I am older now and a clean license.

I have the car, truck, and toy hauler (trailer), and house all covered via State Farm... They quoted me like $1200 a year on the Spyder... Pissed me off.

I'm paying 600/year for full coverage with fire/theft/vandalism and $500 deductibles for my 2013 Yamaha FZ6R, I thought that was pretty decent. I will probably revisit my insurance situation after having a year of experience, but for now it's fine (only paying about $240 for the remainder of the season).

Out of curiosity I got quotes for different motorcycles, and to insure an R6 with the same company would have cost me about $3000/year if I recall correctly.

Stick with a bike that is cheap to insure if you're worried about the premiums! Plenty of very fun options there anyway!

If I go ahead with it, I think I am going to go with something like a $5,000 medical payment option (per person, regardless of fault). It'll add $200-$300 more a year, but I think it's highly worth it.

If you get even modestly injured in an accident, $5K won't even scratch the surface. Waste of money IMO.

Do you have regular health insurance?

Well, if they have to set his leg he'll owe $20k instead of $25k...

Well, considering that it can pay towards my deductible (if I have health insurance; I don't currently but I am looking at getting it) and max out-of-pocket expense... I won't be out more than $5k if the accident goes over $10k in damage. (Assuming my max out of pocket per year is $10k)
