Motorcycle guys- anyone familiar with Xpeed helmets?

I've also heard good things about the Scorpion series and HJC. I'll stop at the local shop to test-fit a few and see what I like..but I can almost guarantee that they will be significantly overpriced here.

You should really buy a helmet that fits you well, your best bet is to try some on and find one that fits. I've never heard of Xpeed, but that seems really, ridiculously cheap for a decent helmet.

I like Scorpions. I'm on my third EXO-700 this season (racing in New Hampshire) and the first two EXO-700 helmets I had did their job very well. 😛

Are you racing this weekend? I'd like to make it, but I'm working...

I'm leaning towards a Scorpion 400 now- is there a significant difference between it and the 700?

Never heard of Xpeed & despite the fact that inexpensive helmets can somtimes protect as well or better then expensive ones (further even a crappy helmet is a lot safer then none!) I wouldn't take a chance on them.

HJC makes very safe helmets although I've never found one that fit my head comfortably ... I've heard of Scorpion but don't know much abot them.

I'm racing Saturday, just one race and practice, I have somewhere to be Sunday. I'm novice #358, blue bike, yellow truck. If you're ever up there, come by and chat.

The EXO-400 is a polycarbonate shell, the EXO-700 is fiberglass. As a side note, you can't race with polycarbonate helmets, it's against CCS/LRRS rules.

I have an HJC. Just make sure anything you get is DOT certified. It should have the DOT sticker somewhere on it.

Never heard of them. I wear a Shoei RF-1000 in medium. I know it fits so I would feel comfortable buying another online but I wouldn't buy any other brand helmet online without first trying it on. Even then, you might find that the helmet doesn't fit quite right after wearing it for an hour or so. Or you might find that wind noise or the weight is not going to work for you. That's why I'd only buy from a store with a good helmet return policy.

Ah, I see. I won't be racing for a while- I think it might be a good idea having a few years' experience under my belt first!

I'll probably swing by the shop tomorrow and try some helmets on. I think they primarily carry HJC, but I'll take a look around.

Hands down the best fitting helmet I've ever tried. They're extremely quiet in the wind as well. I have an RF-900 for passengers/backup and an RF-1000 for my primary.

I remember not so long ago HJC helmets were removed from some tracks due to a number of injured riders that happened to be wearing them.. it was maybe a year or two ago but that was enough to stop me buying from them. My first helmet was a KBC. Second and current is a Joe Rocket, which is extremely comfortable and looks good to boot. Got it super cheap too. Retail $250, sale at a dealer, $60.

I took the rocket over a scorpion on sale at the same price..
