Motor Trend's 2003 Eclipse GTS Spyder test info - 6.88s 0-60 mph

The GTS gets a higher compression ration (10.0:1) and a new variable length intake manifold. These changes optimize the 3.0 liter V-6's 205lb/ft of torque (at a lower 3750rpm rather than its previous 4000rpm) and icrease peak HP to 210 @ 5750rpm.

At the track, the 03 GTS spyder is, indeed, quicker, but could be quicker. Where the GT's wider ratio manual tranny surpasses 60mph in second, the GTS' new cogs necessitate a time augmenting shift to third. Still, the GTS spyder runs a 6.88-sec 0-60 mph versus the last 01 GT coupe we tested @ 7.31sec.

engine differences - my engine on the left, new engine on the right

Why'd they test the Spyder? Wouldn't it make more sense to test regular coupe? I still want the Lancer Evo... 😉

yeah, testing the spyder doesn't make sense. especially since it's faster than the 2000-2002 coupe. which (hopefully) means that the coupe is even faster.

?? 😕 Well, 0-1320ft is a better measure of accel to me... (that's 1/4mile time)... and you lose some rigidity with the soft top and sometimes extra pork.

Anyways, the Lancer Evolution VII is due for arrival in 2003 as a 2004 model... so I'm guessing summer/fall of 2003? No official word on the STi... which will still look ugly. 😛
