This is mind-boggling acceleration. I wonder if they will ever publish the 'ring time... Rumor is they don't want to because it's slower than the 918. Hard to imagine considering the hardware...

ACCELERATION TO MPH
0-30 1.2 sec
0-40 1.7
0-50 2.1
0-60 2.6
0-70 3.0
0-80 3.5
0-90 4.1
0-100 4.7
0-110 5.5
0-120 6.3
0-130 7.4
0-140 8.5
0-150 9.9
0-160 11.6
PASSING, 45-65 MPH 0.9
QUARTER MILE 9.8 sec @ 148.9 mph

That 0-130 is faster than most cars' 0-60.

Is grip basically the only thing keeping cars like this from accelerating even faster?

grip & driveline tolerances. I imagine they have to ease on the torque from a standstill in a controlled fashion in order to not break anything.

probably mostly grip though.

rumor is the battery is pretty small on the P1 so the KERS system will run out of power on a full nurbering run - making it slower than the 918

Also RWD vs. AWD means they have to ease out of curves more, just like the GT-R with mediocre power can do immense things by putting the power down earlier.

Koenigseggs (of multiple varieties) are faster.
I think only the Agera R can almost match the 0-60. We'll have to see what the 1:1 can do on a test. The P1 is definitely a crazy fast car. Between the P1 and the 918, I think the P1 is a driver's car, and the 918 is a more livable daily driver.

I love that the harder a car is to drive, the more it becomes a 'drivers' car.

Why do drivers want to fight the machine?

It's not so much fighting it but doing the driving yourself and being able to get a better feel for exactly what the machine is capable of. Cars that assist with everything and shift for you and stuff the cockpit with luxury appliances feel a lot more bland to drive(not that either of the two cars could be considered bland).

Unless it is a ferrari... then it doesn't matter how many assists it has, it's still a "drivers car" 🙄

Impressive, but I had to laugh at the warranty:

BASIC WARRANTY 3 yrs/Unlimited miles
POWERTRAIN WARRANTY 3 yrs/Unlimited miles
ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE 3 yrs/Unlimited miles
