Motor flopping around in engine bay. Video.

looks normal to me, my 88 camry did that and it had like what, 120hp? I've seen it on other engines too.

But yes I imagine you could get a quicker response. I'd do it for that upgrade, but not just because the engine is moving, but taht's me.

at the most it was 1" movement total, ie +/- 0.5"....seems fine....definitely not 3" lol

It looks pretty bad to me. That engine is moving 2-3 inches front and back. Not good. Not to mention, it's an 85 MR2, those are probably the originally mounts. If they're easy to get to, replace them before you bust a half shaft or screw up your CV joints.

IMO it's not bad unless it's slamming in between your firewall and radiator support every time you touch the gas

Lol, you bet I would! Its a mid engine car! The engine is behind me and the radiator is infront of me! But seriously, I have been hearing some knocking back there, as in, I think something is hitting somewhere. It worries me.
EDIT: found the sourse of the knocking!! :shock: !!

Dont worry. Only some vacuum lines hitting the firewall. Solution: get rid of the vacuum lines :awe:

I highly doubt that's normal. I may have missed it, but have you replaced them? With all of the work you have done, I would think you have. If not, i would replace them given the mileage on the car. I would guess someone makes poly mounts for those cars, I would stick to stock replacements - I don't care for the vibrations poly lets through.

I havent replaced them yet. I have a set of Poly's in the mail. Was hoping they'd be here for this weekend, but no dice. Im not too worried about vibrations, its my Toy car. not a DD.
Also I have new Exhaust manifold bolts, manifold gasket, and shift cable end links that I plan on all doing at the same time as the mounts.

Good call on replacing them. Don't let a $60 repair wait and turn into a $300 one.

I had to replace a motor mount on my Mk1 - it was really easy to get to. You should be able to look at it under the car without too much of a hassle - if the rubber is all nasty and..well, gone, there's your problem. 😛

Engine sounds great. Mounts definitely look worn, but even if they aren't and that is normal for this car, you might want to invest in some better-than-stock mounts if you're going to be driving it hard, for durability and effectiveness.

Did all 4 mounts on the Camry this morning in one hour 😀 Book calls for two hours just for the rear.

170k on factory OEM mounts isn't pretty. Instead of solid they had 6 DOF. You could play the top mounting stud in the mounts like a joy stick on the front and rears. Never bothered because they are fawking expensive (just the one rear hydraulic mount for 5spd from Toyota is like $200) and it's just a beater so it doesn't get ragged out and slammed on in any way that broken mounts would hurt anything. I did have to check the tach to make sure the engine was running when I left the shop.

Four new strut assemblies mounts and all, new rotors, control arm bushings, motor mounts, etc Feels like a new car again. Catching up on long past due "major" maintenance in preparation for the next step... Bwahahaha!

Mounts are bad

This small 1/4" vertical movement somehow translates into about 1" lateral movement up top. I can move the motor in the bay by pushing down on it with my hands.
Im also embarrased to say this... but my rear mount was slightly loose. I tightened it up and the movement is much less.

New poly's are in the mail: will still install them.
