BTW: It's easy to check for vacuum leaks.

Get a can of carb cleaner or ether, and spray it around the carb base while the engine is running.
If the RPM's go up, you have a leak.

WTF, no one told him to take out the spark plug and replace it?

Yeah there can be all kinds of junk, but when that happens, the plug often is crappy anyway. The plug is the easiest thing to try.

Well I took off the bottom part of the carb but there wasn't anything in there except a interior ring section. I sprayed it all down with the carb cleaner and up the hole in the center where the needle thing goes. I also sprayed the cleaner all over so we'll see what happens. I did notice that a small hose (think it goes to the primer) is cracked so hopefully that's not breaking anything. That might be why it looks wet is because when I prime it it may have been squirting gas out the crack isntead of in where it belongs.

Anyway, more to follow tomorrow. Hopefully it will at least start so I can get out of my driveway...

I have the same problem with my dirtbike. I left it sit too long with old gas in the gas tank. I thought I drained the carb good but I cannot get that thing to idle anymore without full choke or half choke. Now my issue is that it is a DUAL CARB. I've taken apart and rebuilt carbs on a single carb dirtbike but never tackled a dual carb. Should I go for it, is there something special I need to do to sync them up? Or give up and take it in for fixing?

On your dirtbike you have a plugged pilot jet.

What year and make dirtbike?

An old 1985 Honda XR250.

I don't have access to shop manuals from that far back.

But it is a plugged pilot jet which I believe is also referred to slow jet (and this is not the pilot air jet/slow air jet). You are going to have to open up the carb and clean it.
