lemme axe you a question, lemme axe you a question...why is the phone preferable to a year old nexus 4 that is quad core s4 pro while this is only dual core??? for most people with high end phones this isnt going to be an upgrade as far as i can tell

I think the processor is still unknown. The older dual s4 pro did not have the wifi ac yet the one in the moto does.

Like I said in a previous post, just want til the unveiling before you judge the phone. Yes it is only a dual core but performance leaks of this phone has shown that it performs better than the N4, and the gpu scores are significantly higher, even more so that the HTC One and Samsung S4.....

I have an N4 and if this phone is cheap (~300) I will certainly buy one. I mean why not? Its basically an N4 in a smaller body with the same size screen. I love my N4 but the one thing I dont like about it is the glass body. It makes the phone un-necessarily heavy and prone to cracks.

Lets wait till we see the non-contract price before making judgements.
If this is $299 or lower, its better than the Nexus 4 in everyway.
- You can say the cpu in the Nexus is better but I highly doubt you will notice the difference.
- Better camera, front and back. Anything is better than the camera on the Nexus 4.
- Better form factor. Less bezels on the Moto X makes it look more attractive.
- Slightly better battery.
- 16gb vs 8gb assuming both are $299.
The Nexus 4 is my main phone now and I have no desire to upgrade since its still blazing fast. Heck, if the Moto X is $299 and has a better camera, its already a winner.
I'm planning to give my Nexus 4 to someone as a gift so at $299 I would rather get the Moto X rather than spending $500+ for the One or SG4.

Moto x is really looking like a fone phail. I think most of us would be better off waiting for them ta git they act tagetha wif da "plus" edishun in 3 months

How is this a more attractive phone than nexus 4 if it's only dual core, other than it's on Verizon. It's pretty gay the way they're trying to pass off different colored backing and monogramming as innovation, most people were probably expecting customizability wrt CPU, memory, storage, screen resolution etc...

Most people aren't a bunch of geeks and don't care about that stuff.

If that were true the iPhone wouldn't sell as well. You know a smaller phone that doesn't have the highest end specs , removeable storage or batteries. But can be endlessly customized with accesories

I might get a moto x. It seems software optimized to still feel fast and if its $300-400 a good deal cheaper. Hell I don't want a 1080p screen anyway. Motorola knows the high end is dominated by Samsung but they also know people buy plenty of mid range phones and its mostly older gen stuff there. This is "new" and will compete mostly with the s3 and s4 mini / one mini which won't get nearly the ad budget. If this gets the Motorola name and brand recognized on all carriers again its already a success and will pay off greatly for next years phones by Motorola

Is this phone going to have Maxx level battery life? It's the one area they could take away from the current high end phones.

No idea. However, if it's as optimized as everyone is reporting, there's a good chance it'll last at least 1.5-2 days of use.

Googling I found this: http://www.phonedog.com/2013/07/21/...images-of-white-unit-and-battery-information/ So maybe 2200 Mah.

Don't expect something awesome like a cheap Droid Razr HD though this isn't going to be an all day phone. I imagine the Moto X as a lower priced lower spec Nexus. Moto's high end phones are still going to be pretty much Verizon exclusives and already have names: Droid Ultra and Droid Maxx.

For light users.

If your a heavy user, the battery won't even last 10 hours.

No. I read somewhere it's going to have less than 2000 mAh. The Moto X isn't a high end phone it's a value phone. Don't expect something awesome like a cheap Droid Razr HD. That's the thing, The Verge confirmed that it's not going to have a 1500/1700 mAh or whatever. It's supposedly over 2000 and is around 2250/2500.

they claim 3-4 times the battery life with 4.3:

Well if the new lines of Droid is any indication, the Moto X really has 8 cores! This can explain why it looked so fast and scores well on the benches!

That would be nice, but, I don't think Motorola is really in that position.

I mean, if they deliver this device under $300, then it should really appeal to the Nexus crowd. Especially if they can get it with LTE. It looks like a decent phone. I'd probably buy one if it hit $200.
The Nexus crowd can already get a Nexus 4 for under $300 that's unlocked and not controlled by the carriers.
Moto X is not really a "Nexus" anyhow. It will still be controlled by Verizon/AT&T with encrypted Moto boot loaders, slow carrier updates, and I'm sure it won't ship with Google Wallet.

And my Nexus 4 already has LTE. 😉

will they release a sim card/gsm version of this phone for all other carriers like they did with the milestone?

i hate the inconvenience of cdma carriers like verizon and sprint.

Well, every 4G/LTE phone Verizon has released for the past...... I don't know how long, at least 9 months, is unlocked meaning it can be used on T-Mo or AT&T. The only thing is that they might not support a certain band. The Verizon iPhone 5 can support AT&T's network on 4G and 3G/2G (I believe) and on T-Mo it can only support 4G on a refarmed radio.

:thumbsdown::thumbsdown::thumbsdown::thumbsdown:

And it has LTE for like 5 people. Not to mention using the old radio breaks sensors in 4.2.2 so that doesn't really help.

I got the feeling from the Droid Ultra announcement that the Moto X and Droid Ultra are pretty much the same phone.

Both phones have the 720p AMOLED displays.
Both phones have the always listening "OK Google Now" feature and extra sensors.
Both phones have 1.7 GHz dual core S4 Plus processors.

I think that "8 core" X8 custom SoC is just a bunch of marketing talk. 2 cores for the S4 Plus, 4 cores for the Adreno 320, and 2 more cores for the contextual computing, and language processor.

Yeah, 8 core is kind of a marketing gimmick, IMO.

I'm torn on the screens. 720p on 5"? Ehhhhh.... AMOLED screen? YAY!

720p and AMOLED on 4.3"? Pretty nice, actually, IMO.
