It's already out in Europe, but won't be in the US until January. Not really sure why they delayed the launch considering Motorola is a US company. $179 for the 8GB model in the Play store, 199 for the 16GB version. Specs look awesome for the price!

Main specs:
4.5" 720P IPS display
1.2 GHz quad-core Snapdragon 400
2070 mAh battery
5MP rear camra/1.3 MP front camera

Downsides:

No NFC
No SD card slot
HSPA+ only, no LTE (less of an issue for those on T-Mobile, since T-Mobile's HSPA+ is quite fast)
5MP camera
Relatively thick (but tapers on the sides so it might feel thinner)

Beats the Nexus 4 in Antutu:

In our continuous video playback test the Moto G lasted for an impressive nine hours and 12 minutes. That's almost two hours better than the high-end Nexus 5 (which we criticised on that point) and with few handsets scoring more than 10 hours in this test, it's a strong result.

It's receiving a lot of praise from the UK review sites:

This is the phone the Moto X needed to be. That is a great position below the N5 and it should become the default go to a Android device under $200.

Wait, theres going to be a US variant?

If this is true, I am SO picking this up

I wouldn't expect more then this:
As text:

GSM model:
GSM - 850/900//1800/1900MHz
UMTS (3G) - 850/900/1700/1900/2100MHz

CDMA model:
850/1900MHz

Network speed:
GSM/GPRS/EDGE/UMTS/HSPA+ Up to 21Mbps (GSM model)
CDMA/EVDO Rev. A (CDMA model)
We will see.

You have a case that the X was initially overpriced, but that doesn't mean it should have been a $180 phone.

It uses F2FS for the data partition, resulting in some pretty decent read/write performance - hence the fast boot times.

Looks like a great phone for the $180 price. Not as many bells as the Nexus 4 which was only $20 more but that is no longer being sold so that point is moot.

That is true, but is not "fair" to compare a launch price to a "end of life/clearing stock price". I know the Nexus 4 was a great deal, I got one, but that was for a really limited number of devices.

I don't mind the A7 cores. It's still plenty fast for the majority of people's usage, ESPECIALLY in its price target.

After looking at some other benchmarks, it's surprising that the Moto G outperforms the Nexus 4 in Antutu. CPU benchmarks like Geekbench have the N4 way ahead, same with GPU benchmarks like 3DMark. Wonder what's giving the Moto G the edge in Antutu.

Here are some additional benchmarks:

I would love it if Verizon supports even an old school CDMA version of the Moto G. But I'm sure that won't happen. :(

I like this phone, but like the cheap Lumias it only has a US impact if it convinces people to move off contract. As a result, I'm not sure what the point of having a Verizon version would be, except as a mid-contract replacement for a broken phone.

That said, it's really nice to finally see a cheap Android phone that runs smoothly.

Do not forget nvidia tegra 4i is comming out q1 2014. Motorolla g comes out in January. Tegra 4i according to nvidia will have final phones costs between 100 to 300 us. Tegra 4i is a quad core cortex a9 revison 4 at speeds up to 2.3 ghz with an integrated lte modem.

Nvidia has a reference platform called project phoenix with a 1080p 5 inch screen. Nvidia did a similar reference platform with project kai and tegra 3, asus modified the reference platform and came out with the original nexus 7. It is due to nexus 7 and the kindle fire that we have a lot of competition and liw prices with 7 inch tablets
