So my mother is finally going to move on to smartphones from old flip phone. I am familiar with higher end phones but not really with lower end phones. Her max budget is $130 and I am looking for Android. I prefer Galaxy models but open to other suggestions. I am looking for new only USA. I could only find these 2 that didn't looked like they sucked the moto g power and the Samsung a02 not sure if there is better options.

Thank you!

I've never used the Samsung, but I had the 2019 model of the Moto G Power. When the newer model released in 2021, I didn't see a reason to upgrade to it, since not much had changed. Newer Snapdragon, but not much difference in specs.

It was a great phone for the money in my opinion, I never had problems with mine. I got it through Google Fi at the beginning of 2020. If you can find one new for 130 or less, it'd definitely be a bargain.

The Moto G 2020 is an excellent phone. Do not confuse it with the 2021 model. It may be a little heavy for your mom but it has a monstrous battery life. If you want to go the Samsung route, the A51 is what you would want at that price point.

Oh the A51 would be great! I'll look into the Moto G 2020 as well. Any reason not to go with the 2021 model? And last question could you link me an A51 for under $150 new? I couldn't find anything honestly

The 2020 Moto G (I have one myself) has a 1080p screen. The 2021 model has a 720p screen. I am not certain of the price on the A51 model. I just know that would be the phone you would want at the budget line from Samsung.

My main phone is now a OnePlus 8 that I got for $200. I also have a Moto G7. I like motorola because everyone hates them. That keeps the prices low. The Moto G power 2020 is an excellent phone for the price.

Thank you so much for the explanation. I think its down between The Moto G 2020 and the Galaxy A02s at this point. Gonna view some comparisons online

The other thing was the 2021 model came with 32GB of storage and 3GB of ram. The 2020 was always 64GB storage 4GB ram. The 2020 has wifi ac so the wifi speed is good for up to 400mbps down. It wouldn't surprise me if the 2021 model was just 5ghz standard which would be 100mbps down. I just checked my Moto G (2020) it has Android 11 on it and the Dec 2021 security updates.

It's just a really solid phone. Snapdragon processor, good mid range performance phone. A monster battery and the best battery life of any phone I have had.

I'm also in the market for a sub $150 phone for my mother. Where are you all shopping to find these deals? Any other models to consider?

I need to use an AT&T MVNO because of her location. No Verizon towers here and Tello (T-mobile) signal is almost non-existent in her appt.

I recently picked up a couple of Galaxy A03 Core models recently on Newegg from a decently-rated 3rd-party seller, one of those cell importers from FL. ~$106 ea.

Thanks Larry. Will international versions of phones work fine here in the US? They don't have a warranty correct? Any more cons I should know about?
