Saw Staples had it for 450 too. Still too pricey for what the platform offers right now, IMO. The Transformer is the only 10in HC tablet that's priced semi-reasonably right now.

I've been trying to find a good reason to buy a tablet, I just keep coming blank.

They're expensive toys. As big as a laptop but not nearly as useful.
Too big to replace your phone.

The android tablets have to come strong with the price. It doesn't matter how awesome they re spec'd, when the ipad can be had for 499 they dont stand a chance. The ipad is nice and polished regardless of what the trolls say

Apple sync'd things up well with the iPads. The OS was ready for it, the hardware was ready for it, and they had tablet-ready apps ready from the gate. Google dropped the ball with HoneyComb and continues to fumble it. No source, minimal tablet-ready apps, no NetFlix/Hulu/HBO Go, devices coming available at a snail's pace, etc. It's pathetic. And that's coming from some one's who's trying to find a reason to buy a tablet.

I hear ya. I have been trying to justify my purchase of my transformer a couple of months ago. Yeah, its cool but really cant replace anything that I already have. I use my MBP for most of my casual computing needs 90% of the time. I also use the MBP for netflix and when I try to fall asleep I use my iphone4 to run netflix on my pillow to fall asleep. I use my Vibrant cellphone for music or my ipod for music because the transformer really sucks for music (sound output on the headphone is just way too low). The transformer is too large for video/pic taking. Its basically a decent youtube viewer and quick email reader and kindle reader.

I feel sort of the same way about the iPad. It's the best of the bunch, I guess, but that's not saying much. And $500 is way, way too much to spend on something that isn't even very useful if you already have a smartphone. Even my dad told me a few weeks after he got both an iPad 2 and an iPhone 4 that he didn't use the iPad nearly as much as he thought he would because of the iPhone.

Yeah iTunes is garbage but the iPad is great and the available software is the biggest factor. No it lacks on specs but all the whiz bang specs in the world do not matter, if these android tablets cant beat apple on pricing they will continue to get their asses kicked. the specs are just as good or better than the competition

the software is nice and responsive

the mail client is better than the one on android

the hardware quality is amazing. the ipad has better build quality than most laptops that cost more

on the ipad 2 the screen is very nice and it has amazing scratch protection

the OS will be upgradable for 2-3 major versions unlike android

a huge software library optimized for the screen. the app store will soon have more ipad only apps than the android market has total apps

is the Xoom's expandable storage working yet? last i heard Motorola was selling hopes and dreams

for the people buying these things the app store has a lot more usable software than the android market

etc etc etc

i use iOS and Android and buy a lot of iOS apps. so far $0 on android apps and don't plan to change it

The xoom I tried at best buy made me force close multiple apps I tried opening, that is unacceptable. I like android, better than iOS actually but I am not a blind company stooge and have no issue appreciating a nice device like the iPad

That must be why Apple is suing Samsung, because they're afraid someone will accidentally buy a Samsung Tab and find out how much better it is.

You are right on the Xoom's storage though. Not sure what Moto's deal is, it works on the Acer, the Asus, etc.

Technically, all that says is that Android customers are more savvy than Apple customers.

See my thread inquiring what people use their tablets for. The results are pathetic to the money spent on the device. And I want to buy a tablet, I just have no use for one. I'd get slightly be benefit from an iPad, but without the fun of customizing and owning the device, it'd just be collecting dust.

Might see if the market changes after the quad core Kal-El products drop . . . and if Google releases the source for HoneyComb so we can get some cool source built ROMs.

Back to the Xoom though, rumor has it, it'll be getting a 3.2 update soon. Mostly a bug fix release, from what I understand, support for 7in devices and Qualcomm hardware.

Yep, lots of people buy into hype. Do you have a link to where 25M iPad 1&2s have been sold? I did a little googling and got about 8-9 million total confirmed sold, other numbers were estimates.

Apple releases all sales figures quarterly, it's not a secret.

They sold 15,000,000 gen 1 iPads alone. Seems you're underestimating iPad sales by greater than 50%.

BTW, looks like Apple just inked a deal in China today, it means a ton of iDevices will get sold. Looks like a deal was cut with China Telecom.

My boss and I went to Best Buy today because he was interested in getting a Xoom after I told him of the $100.00 price drop. However, after handling it and comparing it to the Galaxy Tab 10.1, he decided to pay the $100 extra for the Galaxy Tab 32gig.

I can't blame him for changing his mind. I bought the Galaxy Tab last week, and there's something about the Xoom that didn't sit well with me. Hardware-wise the Xoom has the extra ports, but it's weight and thickness may have been the deciding factors in him changing his mind.

I have an iPad first generation. iPad 2 wasn't different enough to warrant an upgrade, and I wanted to try out an Android device. I like the Galaxy Tab. It's lighter and thinner where I'll now be using it as my primary ebook reader. So far though, I think the Android App Store has a long way to go in catching up to the amount and quality of apps that are available to Apple.

Oh...I won't be ditching my iPad just yet. There are a few apps that really assist me at work. I haven't seen any Android apps yet worthy of making the switch.
