Moto Droid 'Sapphire' 1.0 Froyo ROM released

Bateluer

I made a back up of my CM6RC2 build, wiped, and tried this out. Didn't have much time to work with it, but its very slick and smooth. I didn't seem to get very good quadrant scores when compared to CM though, ~600 vs ~1400 in CM, both with 1Ghz kernels. Like JIT isn't enabled. Also, the Bekit based kernels provided on their site tend to make my Droid run much warmer than I would prefer. I made a back up image of Sapphire so I can try some different kernels to see if I can get around that problem later. Definitely among the better ROMs I've tried though.

They have a version for the Droid Incredible in the works, under the name Ruby.

The quadrant scores are lower because they disabled Stagefright in favor of going back to Opencore for media because of the complaints about streaming audio quality with Stagefright. The h.264 part of Quadrant does better with Stagefright. Other than a benchmark score, Sapphire 1.0 flies. Explanation of the Quadrant score thing here:

Ah, will have to given it another try this weekend with Chevyno1's kernels.

Doesn't Froyo make the phone faster anyway?

/me finds hacking and rooting phones to be too much hassle

I might try this out.

I did Cyanogen first (and what I'm on now), but it has performance issues I'm not happy with. It is very slow response times, and feels "laggy." I switched to JRummy's Kangerade and it's been beautiful for speed, looks, and feel. What sucks is the lack of built in features of Cyanogen that I miss.

If it keeps all of my settings, that would be fine.

But if I have to spend another hour getting all my settings right again and setting up programs, I'll pass 😀

Launcher Pro, ADW, and htc-ime all allow you to export settings and Froyo DLs all your apps automatically. Shouldn't take more than 10 or 15 minutes to switch roms.

Froyo does keep all that. After I wipe and change ROMs, all I have to do is sign back in to my account.

I don't want to have to setup Google Voice again, my Exchange account, Gmail accounts and you know, crap like that.

So I'm on 2.1 ... if I use this "one click Root" app to Froyo, I don't have to do anything?

It saves all important stuff. Now that I think about it, I do have to redo my alarm. Wifi networks and all that are saved.

I'm not sure at all about Exchange servers and that kind of stuff. Once rooted, you can use Titanium to backup everything and one click restore.

Is there anything in these unofficial Froyos that don't work/work properly that the official 2.2 from Motorola/Verizon would fix?

There's a minor glitch in the CM roms with the Market's build.prop which doesn't show some apps. Its easily corrected though. Another than that, I'm fairly certain Sapphire, CM, Insanely Clean, Bugless Beast, etc, will all be superior to Verizon's Froyo build.

Edit - Just backed up my new CM6RC2 install to reflash to Sapphire but using Chevyno1's ultra low voltage 1Ghz kernel.

OK, so I would want one that is light, clean, and fast. Stability above all though.

Which one? Sapphire?

I like CM myself, though I never had an issue with stability with any of the major ROMs, those built from source and otherwise. For stability, they are all pretty solid, provided you don't flash a kernel that's beyond your Droid's ability. Stay conservative there. You might try Insanely Clean, Sapphire, or CM, you'd likely be happy with any, though with your goals, I'd wait until CM6 final is released.

CM6 final ok. So yea if that gets released before VZW's official 2.2 rolls out.

I bet even with 2.2 and no overclock, things will be faster enough anyway.

I'm still on CM 5.0.7.1, the JRummy's Remix version. It seems like JRummy stopped making the CM Remix, so I just haven't switched to CM 5.0.8. Figured at this point, especially since the DarkEdge UI team decided to skip CM 5.0.8 and work on Froyo stuff... I'm just waiting for CM6 Final, and even then will probably wait for CM 6.0.1. 🙂
