Pound an impact socket (17mm in my case) onto the broken lug. Take off with air wrench.

that's not a bad idea. I dont have an air wrench tho so i'll have to put some muscle into it.

I posted a thread a few weeks back about not having the key for the locking lugs of the used car I bought.
I tried most of the above, plus drilling and trying to pound a socket over it. What finally worked was taking it to Firestone, where they charged me $32 to take off all 4 of them.

And what if it gets stuck in there on top of the existing one.... could make it worse.

That is how you fix it. Done it many times.

I beat the sh|t out of it, and couldn't get it to go on that way.

Oh, also, Sears sells a Nut Cracker for ~$15. Slip it over the lug, and crank down on it until the nut cracks. Break it off with a plier. The air wrench way works better, though.

Yea, if you have room to get a nut cracker anywhere near it.

The oversize socket is the best bet. I've had Tire America take mine off for free since they did my tires. Basically it's just an oversized compressed air socket with kind of spiral like teeth inside that grab the outside of the lug nut. Even with that it can take a while to get off. That's why some places charge so much. Could take 5-min or 45-min.! They pound it on with a sledge and then use a compressed air ratchet.

Basically I tried to take it off and the Wheel lock key broke part of the lugnut and part of the key.

How can I take this thing off ? Can I take a Hammer and a Screw Driver ? to break the lugnut in half ?

Thanks.

Just got back from Pepboys, they said $80 dollars
BWHAHAHAHA..

go get yourself a matching stud from napa auto parts, hammer the old one out and put the new one in

<- broke 3 lug nuts in the past 12 months. The fvckers at discount tire can never get the nuts on straight

Nutbuster

Snag grinder to flat it out...then take a punch and make a start hole....then drill it out.

That will be 75 dollars please ;)

If you have a Discount Tire Company, they did it for me for $15 the other week. Basically, the lock on my friend's car was all fux0red because of this antitheft locks. Took it in and in 30 mins, they took it off no problem. Good luck.

I was wondering if anyone was going to suggest that. It's a lot easier than drilling the old stud out. Most cars do not have the stud threaded into the rotor. They are actually pressed in on the other side with teeth to keep them from moving. Take rotor/hub off. Pound broken stud out with hammer. Get new stud and pound it back into rotor. Get new nut for wheel and replace wheel. Voila!

It won't do a thing to an impact socket. It will, however, fvck up a standard socket pretty badly.

God Damn.
I took it in to the mechanic and he tried the Impact Gun on it, and it wouldn't break.

I'm gonna take it into the dealership and get it removed.
Do you think they'd cover it under warrranty ? Defective wheel locks ?

If a impact wrench was used on the locking lugnut then no it won't be covered. Most manufactures state the locking lugnut are to be removed and installed using had tools, no impacts.

heat the lug nut and then use the socket, see if you can get it to loosen at all.

luckily we have a welder here and if anything gets stuck, it just gets a new nut on top of it.

The last time I had to remove a broken locking lugnut it took me about 1.5 hours to drill it out.

I first took it to Firestone.
They told me they will cut the Stud and replace it for $35 bucks.
After finding out that my car is a Lexus, they said they don't even want to touch it :p.

Recommended a Rims and Stereo specialty shop.
They also tried to Impact Wrench it, but they said it didn't work so they welded my wheel lock key and another lugnut and removed it.

Cost me $63.60.
It was well worth the cost. I will be going back to them in the future.

I can't tell you how many times we run into this a week in my shop.

Take a Craftsman or "made in Japan" 12 point chrome socket and hammer it on there. Sometimes we go through a couple before it works - I mean really wack it on there with a big assed hammer. It will probably be the end of the socket. The reason you use a regular socket instead of an impact socket is because 1. impacts don't usually come in twelve point (twelve points grip a round object better) and 2. impacts don't give at all. A regular chrome socket will stretch a little before it cracks.

Then use an impact on it.

We have wheel lock removal kits, torches, drills, vise grips etc. and this works the best...
