Motherboards with 4 PCIe slots

Hi all,

Need a bit of help please, I am building a demo system for work which will involve a high spec pc running 6 x 40" TV's, I have decided to use the Nvidia Quadro NVS 290 graphics cards but to run 6 screens I would need 3 cards so need a motherboard with a least 3 x PCIe x16 slots, all I can find out there are boards with 4 slots but 2 run at x16 and 2 run at x4 which I would imagine wont be good enough if the cards are x16 each?

Also I might be building a high spec folding/gaming machine and running 4 x 8800gt's/9800gt's in quad SLi so would like a board with 4xPCIe x16 slots for that if they exist?!

Any help is much appreciated!

Thanks for the reply mate im happy to use AMD, any ideas how the Quadro's would react to this board? IE: if the cards are x16 each and this board can run 2 of the slots in x16 mode but the other 2 in x8 mode would the cards still work ok?! If that makes sense lol

Why the quadro's?

You could run those on any motherboard with 4 pci-e slots just fine, if they're limited to 8x or even 4x you likely won't notice a difference. Hell, most higher end GPUs aren't bottlenecked by x8 speeds.

And for the quad-9800gt folding rig, it won't be running in SLI mode, run them as separate GPUs running 4 clients

Cheers mate that was what I wasn't sure on, I don't fully understand about the x16, x8, x4 speeds on PCIe so thats why I wondered if it dropping to x8 would cause any issues for the cards although I didn't think there would be.

So 3 x Quadro's on that MSI K9A2 board would be fine you think?

Only using the Quadro's as I already have 2 here in work so only need to buy 1 more to run the 6 monitors 🙂
