I've got a K7T-266 Pro2 -RU - wonderful board.

However, the board won't detect when only one hard drive is hooked up - but if i add a 2nd hard drive to the same IDE cable, it sees both right away.

Suggestions? I've got one HD pinned for master w/slave and the other drive pinned for slave.

Both hard drives are WD. One is WD800JB and the other is WD600BB.

Thanks.

I think you first need to recheck your jumpers; they are easy to get reversed. Also, try changing them around; make one the Master and try it and the next attempt, make it the slave and see what happens. It could be that one drive has some problems. I had that happen once.
Have you tried the CS (Cable Select) positon on the jumpers. Some drives will only like that one.

There is a setting for Master (single drive) and Master (dual drives), meaning you have to tell it whether it's the only drive on the IDE channel or not. This is most likely why your motherboard only detects your drives when they are both connected, because your master drive is looking for a slave but not seeing it when it is the only drive connected and therefore not working.

Does that make sense?

Go here if you need to check your settings: WD jumper settings

Setting the jumper in the correct position worked! Amazing, eh? If i would just slow down sometimes to look at what i'm doing... ;)
