I was under the impression that 939 was going to host both FX and regular 64 models. I saw listings of the Athlon 64 3500+ and 3700+ on the 939 but now I'm seeing only FX on this platform.

I am looking to go the path a step or 2 below the FX (ie. around where the 3400+ and 3200+ are in the scheme of things now.) When is the next non FX athlon 64 coming out and what platform will it be on? What is the furthest planned processor for that socket? (I'm going to want to upgrade the processor in another 1.5-2 years). Will 939 or 754 be around for a while?

Dude, nobody knows for sure, although everyone seems to have an opinion. AMD says they're going to keep the socket 754 around for awhile, but it's going to be their "value" line. That's the only official news that I've heard so far, although the rumours (from very good sources) say that both the A64 3200 and the 3400 will also be made in a socket 739 part, but I haven't heard for sure whether or not they'll continue to be made in socket 754 also. Either one isn't a bad deal for now, though, since it will support 64-bit, whenever that finally arrives.

So what's the problem? If you're going to wait two years to upgrade, you're going to have to buy a new motherboard anyway! And motherboards are cheap, compared to processors (except the Athlon XP's;)). Besides, you're going to want to change motherboards by then, anyway, for all of the advanced new features it will have, whatever they may be. Oh yeah, they're introducing a new type of power supply, also, so unless your psu will support the faster chip you buy 2 years from now, you'll have to buy a new motherboard also. I say, if you want one now, buy/build one now.

Where did you see that?? Because as this website has been indicating for awhile now, there will be a line of regular A64's for the 939 socket. The names were all changed as well....

754 CPU ----------- 939 CPU
A64 3400+ -------- A64 3500+
A64 3700+ -------- A64 3800+

Article here: http://www.anandtech.com/cpu/showdoc.html?i=1985

Difference being the socket, and the fact that 939 chips are supposed to have 1/2 the cache at 512K.

Am I missing something?

They'll also have DCDDR controllers IIRC. Half the cache means little to me, the DCDDR, on the other hand, I really like. :)

Is there any indication of wheter they are going to actually make the release time for 939?
Anyone have an idea or estimate on the prices of each model?

A lot of speculation, but look towards the end of May. I saw a link to an article that a date of May 25th was leaked.

Now, if that is the case, I am not sure if this is when they just release the specs to the mobo makers, if this is when the first retail releases are....Any clues people????

I don't think anyone knows for sure yet. As a matter of fact, I would bet that it's still up in the air at the AMD home office. But even the end of May is within what AMD has been saying for months, since they said "sometime in Q2 of this year" a long time ago.
