Hello all,

My motherboard needs to be replaced. I need a new one that supports this stuff to minimize my cost:

Socket A - AMD Thunderbird 1.3 Ghz
Support for Cas 2, PC 133 RAM
AGP 4X
ATA100
USB 1.1

Any suggestions?

Thanks.

ECS K7S5A. Also will enable you to upgrade up to Athlon XP 2600+ and DDR memory when the time comes.

Yes. This board is Usual Suspect #1 for people who want to recycle PC133 RAM. Get the "pro" revision for USB 1.1 and 2.0 (ten ports total).
Please do run memtest86 (www.memtest86.com), you wouldn't be the first to find that your "PC133" RAM doesn't actually live up to being pushed hard at 133 MHz ... and the SiS 735 chipset really does demand flawless compliance to the standard.

I would love to run memtest86. It would mean that my computer at least POSTed! :)

I have tried two chips, two video cards and two sticks of RAM in different combinations (with every thing else removed from the machine) and haven't gotten it to POST in the last few days. I will put the floppy drive back in and try a few different things in order to get it to post so I can run memtest86.

Thanks for the advice.

I have done a bit more research and seem to have found some boards that meet/exceed these specs. They are:

ECS K7S5A
BIOSTAR M7VIW
MATSONIC MS8157E
SHUTTLE AK32E
PC Chips M825LMU
MSI KM2M
MSI KT2
ASROCK K7-VM2

Anyone here have experience with these?

Unfortunately, the only manufacturer that I have heard of (without hearing lots of bad things as well) is MSI. However, I have not had any hands-on experience with any of these manufacturers or their products :(

I was hoping for ASUS or Abit or another similar manufacturer.

I've built a lot of systems with the K7S5A, K7S5A Pro, and the M7VIW. The M7VIW doesn't have the memory performance of the K7S5A's (when using memtest86). I've found cheaper (or lesser) memory can be used with it because of that reason. I've never had stability or reliability problems with either board.
