i'm in the process of getting myself a replacement for my be6-ii. the motherboard doesnt post at ALL. no fans spin, nothing. i've tried almost EVERYTHING, etc searched this forum for every scenerio.. only got information i already know or already did. only other thing i can think of is that it is not 'grounding' but i doubt that because i just recieved a new 300w antec ps with new case. so it really looks like its the motherboard. i dont want to get into the more details of my motherboard problem but i do need ur help in deciding the best approach...

considering my motherboard is dead....

1. should i buy a new motherboard for my p3 which is o/c'd to run @933? if i were to buy a new motherboard for the p3, what is the BEST motherboard option right now? next best?;) (hopefully around the $100 range)

2. can i get a different motherboard/cpu combo for about $200? intel or amd? (i would prefer an intel, the system i'm using to type this is an AMD, not really fond of it, has had stability issues already... but if you want to suggest AMD stable solutions, they are more than welcome)

3. or should i just go for a p4 mobo/cpu combo? if i were to go p4 way.. is it possible to get a p4 setup with ~$200? (my budget can go up a little more than $200 if i were to go along that route.)

well thanks alot for your input!!

Forget getting a new PIII mobo. A P4 Mobo+CPU+RAM combo will never stay below $300. The cheapeest P4's are around $110, and mobo's are $130 at least, Plus u need Rambus RAM also which will add more also. If you have the courage to go AMD, then here's what I'd go with:

ECS K7S5A $65, great, stable board. High performing. A little lacking in ocing options, but great otherwise
Athlon 1.4 for $120
Total $185, and plus ECS K7S5A has 2 DDR and 2 SDR slots so you could just throw your PC133 RAM in, or spend $40 for 256MB Crucail PC2100 DDR.

God bless

Yeah. I have a K7S5a and it's great. It's definitely less than $200 pair with a Tbird 1.4.

see, at school i lost touch in reading whats new and whats the latest and whats the best/stable.... and there are just too many articles and too many websites and too pages in those articles to keep up from the last time i left off.. so what i really want to ask is if that board the latest and BEST out there now for amd setup? if not what would be?

thanks again !

So do you want the best setup or the setup that's the best bang for your buck?
The K7S5a is very cheap, stable, and fast. The downsides are that overclocking is a lot harder (you can overclock through software like CPUCool) and you only get two DDR slots. (2xDDR and 2xSDR, but you can't use DDR and SDR at the same time).

Another great setup recommended by a lot of forum users is the Epox 8K7A+. It's a little more expensive but very good for overclocking.
I also recommend the Shuttle AK31 rev. 2 which is very cheap and fast too.

i'm tired of overclocking... i've done it many times.. too many times, in fact.. ever since the 300a to 450 ;) well, i just want a "best bang for the buck" non-overclocked system now... the very best "bang" for the $200-250 price range.. motherboard/cpu.. if i could go intel p4 i'd love it. i might just go with amd though.. looking at articles now to see which motherboard i find more stable/recommended..

more suggestions welcome.. thanks.

looks like im going to go with the athlon 1.4ghz and K7S5a motherboard. no more overclocking for this guy! everything right under $200. im currently looking at buying the retail (just because of the fan and extra warranty) 1.4ghz at newegg.com ($121+$10 shipping) but the ecs motherboard that i want is out of stock there, they dont let you order unless it is.. so i have no choice but to wait. if you guys have any suggestions on which OTHER places to buy.. please share..(cpu+fan and mobo).. total for that would be.. $200 not bad considering its a retail chip and retail mobo?. thanks guys.
