Hello,
I'm looking for a suggestion for a board to use in my new build. Other components:

i7 920
6g ddr3-1600
8800gts512
580w power supply

(gpu and psu from my old machine)

I don't need SLI support. However I absolutely do need: a) optical audio out (controller chip not important), b) a PATA port, c) 6 DIMM slots, d) at least two additional pci-e slots that won't be blocked by my double-width VGA card.

Being able to flash bios from vista x64 is a big plus. Overclockability is good.

Any recommendations? Thanks.

I'm looking at the MSI X58 Pro. Supports up to 24GB of memory + has the optical port you want. Overclockability seems to be a mixed bag though.

Here's the link to it on Newegg.

I don't think you have much to choose. Since the X58 is not matured yet, i guess there is no difference (except price) between current mobos. I would go for the GigaByte X58-UD3R.
I think it has optical out. Their site sucks, so i can't open it from Europe tho check this information.
