Motherboard recommendations please.....

I'm looking to put together an Athlon XP system, 2600+ to 3000+, and would like some recommendations for a good quality mb for socket A.

Will be running 1 gig RAM, suggestions for RAM to go with said mb would be great as well, and Gainward Geforce 4 Ti 4200, 128mb.

Thank you in advance for your suggestions.

#1 dont get a retail barton. Get a AXP-M 2400+. Also i would highly recommend these three boards.

1.DFI NFII Ultra Infinity
2. NF7-S
3.A7N8X-E Deluxe

For RAM just get soem Corsair Value Select, or if you want the expensive RAM Crucial Ballistix is the best out there.

I'll try to answer for Kevin- The mobile's have an unlocked multiplier, OC very very well, run with less voltage (vcore) and therefore less heat.

In addition to the mobo's he mentions, I'd say look into a Shuttle AN35N-Ultra at $55 if your on a budget. Otherwise I'd say the NF7-S v2 (not the NF7-S2).

For better OCing potential (if you're in to that), I'd suggest the the mobile 2600+ with steppings IQYHA.

EDIT: Just noticed you question about ram. I agree with Kevin here too.

The XP-Mobile is a good recomendation because the multiplier is unlocked, and it can be easily overclocked to 2.2GHz (XP 3200+) and beyond.

AMD Athlon XP-Mobile 2400+ $77
ASRock K7V88 $46.50
Corsair Value Select PC3200 CAS2.5 2x512MB $158

Some people have recommended great motherboards, but if you're willing to spend more you may want to consider a socket 754 processor.

watever you do, and i mean ANYTHING BUT ,

NEVER get an msi board, get a sturdy trustworthy board such as shuttle, or asusl You will be happy i told you, unless you go on ahead and get an msi board, youll prolly roll your moitor down the stairs and lite it on fire, cause of all the problems and limitations on msi.

I tend to disagree. I've had my MSI board since April of 2003 and I have never had a problem with it. It may not be built as a great overclocker, but it's very stable.

I agree with kevin DO NOT get a destop barton they are sub-par to the mobile line.
I have an xp2000+m that does 2400 mhz at 1.55 vcore stable.
for stability and great sound ,asus a7n8x-e
for stability and good ocing abit nf7-s
for extreme overclocking, dfi infinity nf2ultra rev 2
