I haven't looked at computer hardware for 4 years, so all this is new to me. I am however building a machine for rendering, I no longer want to rely on my school's computer lab. But I need a little help on what to look for. this is a budget build. I just purchased a graphics card that requires pci-e and has sli capabilities so I will need a mobo that has multiple pci-e slots and sli capabilities. Also I would like at least 4 ddr2 slots for future memory upgrades. Also I will mostly likely go with an Intel Due core chip of some sort. But beyond that, I don't know what to look for and help me narrow down my search. Any suggestions?

EDIT: overclocking probably won't be an option because reliabilty will be very important.

If you want the SLI option then the only chipsets that officially support SLI are nVidia's.

I see, is there any large differnce between going with say nforce 4 or nforce 580? Will any chipset make a huge impact on rendering capabilities. The 680i seems to be out of my budget.

I'm on a budget, but I do a lot rendering and will be purchasing an sli capable mobo, to go with my sli card. Boards with 680i chipset are still pretty expensive. Do the 680i make a huge difference in rendering applications, say as oppsoed to an nvidia nforce4 or other slightly lower cost chipsets?
