motherboard problems

Hi, my motherboard is giving me some problems. I have a Asus p5wdh deluxe. Things that I was able to do a year ago I am no longer able to do. The problem now is the default clock speed is showing lower on the bios. I have an intel core 2 duo e6600. Its default clock speed is 2.4 ghz. The bios shows its 1.6 or sometimes 1.59 ghz or even 2.4 (when the power is turned off and then reset). Also, I cannot overclock at all. I never do it manually because i do not know how to do that. Instead I just use the profile setting which does all the work for you. I was able to overclock up to 30% a year ago. I have the latest bios. Also, when I reboot the computer, it shuts off. So thats all the problems Im having. If anybody can help me, i would really appreciate it thanks.

Some History of the board:
About a year ago, I tried adding a Pata hard drive. I almost destroyed the motherboard in the process. I was 16 years old at the time plus I was very inexperienced with hardware. The worst that happened was the master sata connector got detached from the board while trying to attach the drive to the case. My dad put it back on there yesterday. For a year, I had bad ram. My dad replaced it 2 months ago.
