So I offered to build a new automation computer for the studio at my school. It's still gonna require some old technology since the mixing board is going to stay the same. The company Recommended a PIII processor and the motherboard will also need to have headers for the COM ports to allow internal cables to attach to COM ports. Now This could be a dumb question, but do they still have motherboards with this today? If anyone could clarify what these are exactly that's be great, thanks!

Some new computers have COM ports, but they're just headers with back-plates for the COM ports. Some motherboard manufacturers have had this as recently as a generations ago for chipsets (P45) I believe. That can support up to the new Core2's. Just look around.

I know the Intel Smackover and MSI Eclipse boards for Core i7 have internal COM port headers.
