Hi, I?m currently in the process of building my own super gaming system. One of things I would like to have in it is a 1GHz P3 or AMD Thunderbird. Though being that I?m not current on my hardware knowledge, I?m unable to find the right memory and motherboard for this system. I would much prefer to have the Thunderbird in my system, so could you recommend (price doesn?t matter) a motherboard and memory (256+ MB) that would all be "compatible" with this system? I have everything else ready to go, I?m just in the process or obtaining everything related to the processor and memory.

You will probably want to get a Tbird in the Socket A format (although some Slot A Tbird CPU's will also be available). Then get a mobo based on the new VIA Apollo KT133 chipset that is also Socket A (as most of these boards should be). Unfortunnately there are almost none of these VIA based boards on the market yet and, more importantly, I have seen no comparative reviews of them at sites like AnandTech. Since you are planning on building a pretty nice system I would just hang on for a while, check out AnandTech from time to time for a "Roundup" of these boards and then go for it. You should know, if you are planning to overclock, that there is talk that some of these new boards will enable you to adjust the CPU multiplier as well as the FSB and vcore voltage. These features are worth waiting for if they are well implemented.

As for RAM, just get what is known as PC133 CAS 2 SDRAM.
