Motherboard + Memory Issues

I have a question about my motherboard, and compatibility issues with memory. Of course my instinct to go to the company's site proved absolutely worthless, so I'm going to check with the board.

I have an ECS P4S5A2 Pentium 4 Motherboard, and it supports either two 168-pin 3.3V SDRAM or two 184-pin 2.5V unbuffered DDR SDRAM memory modules. Right now I am using the SDRAM portion of the board, with 128MB PC133 and 256MB PC133 modules. I have always wanted to make the upgrade to the DDR portion though, but prices have never been right.......until yesterday. If any of you frequent the DEALS portion of Anandtech, you'll recognize what I'm talking about. Best Buy recently had a deal for DDR memory. A 128MB DDR 2100 DIMM was only $5 after rebate. I picked up two (have two addresses) of them, but want to make sure they are compatible before I put them in the computer (or keep them for that matter).

The reason I am confused, is by the "2100" portion of the number. I've heard the different numbers, 1600, 2100, etc, but don't understand them fully, and don't know if they are compatible with compuer. Another number I hear referenced in my motherboard manual is DDR266. Does this 266 refer to the FSB and have nothing to do with 2100? I guess I'm just confused. I would appreciate any help. Thanks!

ddr 266 = p2100 ddr 200 = pc1600

the 2100 and the 1600 refet to theoretical bandwidth of 2.1 GB/s (I think its in GB/s)

Any way i hope that answers your question

Suggest you go to Crucial.com site, and expect they will explain the difference for you. Their phone techs also very helpful.

Thanks for your help, I really appreciate. I'm going to go ahead and put the new memory in. Crossing my fingers for performance increase. 🙂
